Planet
An object in space that is spherical, orbits the
sun, and is the largest object in its
“neighborhood”
Dwarf planet
An object in space that is spherical, orbits the
sun, and has objects of similar mass orbiting or
crossing its path
Asteroid
A small, rocky object that orbits the Sun.
Comet
A chunk of ice, rock, and gas flying through space.
When they get close to the sun, they heat up, their
glow and long tails can sometimes be visible in
earth’s night sky.
Meteor
The result of a meteoroid burning up upon
entering Earth’s atmosphere, creating a streak
of light in the sky.
Meteoroid
A small piece of an asteroid or comet, broken off
during a collision.
Meteorite
The word describing a meteoroid when it has
landed on earth
