1. Name and classify examples of common elements and compounds. Ans = Elements constitute the
simplest chemical substances in which all the atoms are exactly the same. Examples of common
elemrnts are: oxygen, silicon, aluminum, iron, and calcium. Examples of common compounds: carbon
dioxie, water, hydrogen dioxide, and ammonia.
2. Compare homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures.Ans: homogeneous mixtures only have a single
phase. A heterogeneous has two or more phases. Example: When oil and water are combined, they do
not mix together fully, but instead they form two separate layers.
3. Give at least 5 examples of mixtures and classify them as heterogeneous or homogeneous
Mint chip ice cream = heterogeneous
Soup = heterogeneous
Orange juice with pulp = heterogeneous
Bronze = homogeneous
Sand = homogeneous
