Geoffrey Chaucer
-
Born to a relatively affluent family in 1340
-
In 1357, Chaucer became a public servant to Countess
Elizabeth of Ulster, the Duke of Clarence’s wife
-
As a teenager he joined the hundred years war and was
captured for ransom, but his royal connection came
through and the king bailed him out
-
Unsure exactly when he wrote Canterbury Tales but it
is definitely his most famed work.
