TYPES OF NARRATIVE IN PLOT
 Back Story – the story starts in the past (summary of the
past) (Ex: Cinderella)
 Checkov’s gun – there’s an important thing that is
essential in the story (Ex: Bao)
 In medias res – the story starts in the middle
 Hypodiegesis – a story within a story
 deus-ex-Machina – the story wherein the main character
is placed in a bad situation but he/she wins over it. (Ex:
Saw Series)
 Plot twist – there’s an unexpected situation happened in
the story (Ex: twilight)
 Poetic Justice – the character gains the justice they want
 Cliffhanger – the story ended abruptly; the reader is the
one that will think of how the story ends
 Flashback – there’s a certain situation or thing that
triggers the past
 Flash forward – what event is possible in happening in the
future based on the present situation
 Foreshadowing – a warning or a hint or clue that
something will happen
