Read the transcript of Angelina Jolie’s speech. In pairs,
identify the rhetorical devices used by her.
Discuss how these devices make her speech effective.
Discuss and identify the information shared in each
paragraph and the effect it may have on the intended
audience.

Use as many rhetorical devices as you can. Show a clear
structure in your speech.

Students will understand that the refugee problem is
present around the globe. They can discuss the problems
of countries who take in refugees and how some countries
are more welcoming of such refugees in-spite of these
problems. The plight of refugees can be made more real
with the help of pictures of real people trying to find a
home in another country in order to escape persecution in
their own.

Students will participate in group discussions and put
forward their views. Students will also deliver the speeches
they wrote with good expression and a convincing tone.
How are you going to ensure

The anecdote of the woman who offered tea to Jolie will
be worked on to show how women can be resilient and
strong even in the most adverse conditions.
