application of a give-and-take relationship among species is critical to the survival of life. Within the
school, for example, if a classmate offered you food, you could give drinks in exchange. You all benefited
from your decisions in this way.
Mutualism is a symbiotic arrangement in which all species prosper. Organisms in mutualistic
relationships often offer food and/or security to one another. In certain cases, two species are so
interdependent that one cannot exist without the other.
