DEMONSTRATION SPEECH
PUBLIC SPEAKING ASSIGNMENT
1. You are expected to present a 4-7 minute speech to Demonstrate. It is to be
delivered extemporaneously.
2. Choose and narrow your topic that interests you and is appropriate for a
demonstration speech. Limit your objective; decide on the main points –two to fiveyou wish to explain. Develop these points with vivid, verbal supporting material.

3. Some of the forms of support material which may be used to develop main points are:
a. Definition/explanation
b. Example
c. Specific instances
d. Statistics
e. Testimony
f. Analogy/comparison
g. Stories
4. Cite your sources. One oral citation (quoted during your speech) is required for this
speech.
5. Materials you are required to complete are:
1. OUTLINE – Full Sentences (typed)
2. WORKS CITED (typed) containing all used sources. (MLA
format)
3. VISUAL AID
6. For this speech, you will use a visual aid to enhance your presentation. You can use
an object, computer graphics, poster board, overhead transparencies, a model, a
diagram etc.. Enlarge print materials for visibility. Use large fonts (28/32 point
minimum).
7. Prepare, rehearse, and dress for the event. Time your speech.
8. Submit a copy of your delivery outline and works cited to the appropriate
assignment folder in the class D2L by midnight the day before you are scheduled
to present your speech. If an outline is not submitted by the deadline, 5 points
will be deducted from your grade.
