In the excerpt you read from chapter 11 of Frankenstein, the creature recounts what has happened in his life
since Frankenstein abandoned him. Use a chart like the one below to record the main experiences in the
creature’s life as well as his thoughts and feelings about those experiences. Please include at least ten
additional items in each column. You will receive one point for each item added to each column for a
total of 20 points.

Opens and closes his eyes
Discovers that opening his eyes provides light and
closing them makes it dark
Wanders in the woods
Felt hunger for the first time
Feels joy in discovering nature

Feels bad about himself and that he wasn’t normal

Heard birds chirp in the air
Felt delighted by the pleasant sounds that the birds
make
Tries to make birds sounds
Is unable to make the sounds and makes different
sounds that scare him into not making any sounds
Found fire left by beggars
Delighted by the heat it gives off that help him to be
warm and not completely cold
Burned by the fire
Felt pain and confused that something that can bring
you joy can also cause a different effect
Tries to build a fire
Pained at first when the wet wood wouldn’t burn, but
then interested by what burns and how to dry wood
Used the fire for his food
Understands that it ruins some food like the berries, but
improves food like nut and roots
Finds a hut
Is interested by the structure and is curious of what it
has inside of it
Meets a Shepard
Scares the Shepard away and is confused and surprised
by the reaction of the Shepard to run from him
Attacked by the villagers
Hurt from the rocks that they threw at him and
confused on why they attacked
