HYPOTHESIS TESTING RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT
INTRODUCTION:
This report discusses an experiment that studies the relationship between 20 sentences in two
different pages of a chapter in the text book “The Environment and You”. Contrasting chapter
13 “Forest Resources” against chapter 16 “Urban Ecosystems”, using the data collected in those
2 chapters and using an online tool to perform the t-test, we will be able to determine whether
there is a significant different in words in chapter 13 and chapter 16. For this experiment, a null
hypothesis was formed that stated there will be no difference between the number of words in
two different chapters of the textbook “The environment and you”.
METHODS:
In this experiment, the scientific method will be used to see if the number of words in
sentences of two separate chapters differ in the textbook. For this, we are going to randomly
select two chapters of the textbook “The Environment and you” the first one is chapter #13,
and the second one is chapter #16, and we are going to find out using a table to represent all
the data we collect and them calculate the mean for each 20 sentences in both chapters. Then,
we are going to use a statistical test called “two sample t-test” in which we are going to
introduce the number of words we found on chapter #13 and the number of words in chapter
#16. Based on the results of the test we can compare the t-value and the p-value to either
accept o reject the hypothesis made at the beginning of the experiment.
Results:
The experiment was conducted to find whether there is a significant difference between 20
sentences in two randomly selected chapters of the textbook “The Environment and You”. We
collect all the data given from those two chapters and put them on a table. The mean was taken
from the words in chapter #13 and in chapter #16 and recorded. We transfer the data from the
two chapters, to the tool to perform the two-sample t-test. Table 2 shows the t-value and the
p-value and a conclusion based on those values.
