Should Mrs. Armstrong Ban Gum at Macatawa Bay?
There have been discussions about whether or not gum
should be allowed any more. Recently, the janitors are
finding gum under chairs and in the carpets. So, Mr. Fine is
seriously considering banning gum. Even though some
students are irresponsible, gum chewing should not be
banned at Macatawa Bay.
The most important reason to allow gum is that the
very act of chewing keeps blood flowing to the brain. Better
blood flow means more oxygen to the brain and better
thinking.
Furthermore, gum chewing prevents bad breath. That
way kids can work better in cooperative groups. They won’t
offend their group mates with bad breath.
Some want to ban gum because it can end up in the
carpet. While this is true, our school should focus on proper
gum disposal first. Everyone shouldn’t be punished for the
offenses of a few! Therefore, let’s be like the real world and
allow gum chewing at Mac Bay.
