An Overview of Orphans in Need-Pakistan
INTRODUCTION:
Pakistan, a country of vast human capital (more than 200 million people), is ranked among
the world’s lowest in terms of human development indicators. A major portion of its
population lives below the poverty level and is deprived of the basic necessities of life.
Growing unemployment and continued illiteracy have added to the suffering of many people
and consequently moral degradation and frustration, especially among the youth, is
alarming. With the Government struggling to curb the situation, non-governmental
organizations and other institutions are needed to support this cause wherever possible.
Fortunately, there are people from all parts of society that want to help bring the nation out
of despair. There is a need to provide a credible platform for philanthropic mobilization, in
order for both rich and poor to be able to contribute collectively towards positive change.
Financial charity is immediately and extensively required but is not the only solution. Various
kinds of intervention are needed to boost morale, develop confidence and create selfesteem, as well as inculcate a culture of sharing among society.
With this broader framework in mind “Orphans In Need Pakistan” (OINP) was established in
May 2014. OINP is a non-political, not-for-profit organization. It is duly registered under the
Trust Act 1882. OINP is also certified by the Regional Tax Office, Rawalpindi (RTO) Government of Pakistan.

OINP’S PROJECTS
1. Orphan Support Programme:
OINP’s Orphan Support Program is a comprehensive approach towards caring of children
especially orphans. In the adopted methodology, instead of supporting or sending them to
orphanages, they are able to stay in their own home and are empowered through education,
health and financial support, while remaining under the care of their mothers or other close
relatives.
We are determined to keep orphan children smiling and enable them to have a normal and
fruitful childhood and have the same aspirations and opportunities as other children do.
Since 2014, in partnership with Orphans in Need UK (OIN-UK), we have supported a total of
about 1,800 orphans, in the district areas of Malakand KPK, Mansehra, Balakot, Abbotabad
Gujrat, Bahawalpur, Gilgat, Chitral, Rawalpindi, and Bagh, Shodnati, Hattian Bala,
Muzaffarabad (AJK). These orphans have been supported through the provision of academic
books, uniforms, shoes, sweaters, blankets and stationery as well as monetary grants of 22
GBP (£) for orphan child in which 20 GBP to child while 2 GBP kept for the administration
costs. We provide 20 GBP through cheques, cash or bank transfers. Annual OINP summer
camps and health care support projects also formed part of the support, which included
needs based health checkups and complete health screenings by a qualified general
physician.
Currently OIN is supporting 1,178 orphans (1092 sponsored by OIN UK and 86 by individual
donors) residing in the Districts Malakand, Mansehra of KP, Mirpur & Muzaffarabad of AJK
and Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, Gujrat, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi of Punjab, Pakistan. OIN
Pakistan is providing funds to each orphan on quarterly basis for their Education, health &
medical support. This support will enable them to continue their education.
2. Orphan & Widow Food Parcel Distribution:
The organization started to distribute orphan and widow food parcels in May 2014. During
the time of the 2014 flood, OINP immediately sent out its team to affected areas in order to
conduct surveys and analyze the magnitude of destruction and recommended immediate
needs to be fulfilled. As a result of these surveys, OINP supported more then 2,500 families
in the form of food parcels and non-food items.
By providing regular, monthly food parcels we enable widowed families to survive and
thrive. Just as these families rely on us, we rely on our volunteers and donors to raise funds
for this most basic need. Till now organization has distributed food parcels among 6000
orphan and widows families.
3. Orphans Age/House Construction:
Orphans In Need Pakistan has dedicated to providing the best care we can for our orphaned
children. We want to ensure that they can aspire to a future full of opportunities for a
fulfilling life. Our aim is to establish a network of orphanages as Centers of Excellence where
education and skills will enable individuals to achieve their full potential. A village that
orphans can truly call home.
In 2015, OINP launched the Orphan’s Home construction with the help of OINUK in
Rawalpindi/Islamabad. This project is currently in progress.
We planned to facilitate 50 female students’ initially in our orphan home and later on this
home is enough for 100 girls. The core of our work is that each individual child is given love,
respect and security of the highest quality possible.
