Dear Mrs., Mr.
I am applying for the position of Visual Arts teacher because I feel invested with a mission to be an agent of
change and positive impact for the success of children not only as future adults and professionals, but as
comprehensively developed personalities with fine character traits and high moral standards. And I believe that
Art is a way through which this mission can be accomplished. Being a teacher at Yeshiva Gedola would allow
me to be a part of a big and healthy community of mind-like professionals where I could apply best modern
practices in Art Education, such as Social and Emotional Learning, Choice-based and Project-based Learning,
and Design-thinking strategies for creative learning in accordance with the mission of the school.
I have eight years of experience working in art education with different age groups. In Ukraine, I was a Visual
Arts teacher in a public school for five and a half years. Once in Quebec, I continue sharing my professional
experience as an artist and designer with high school students at North Star Academy Laval. During these
years, I gained a solid experience of teaching arts, developing a creative potential of my students, and assuring
their success.
As a sociable person, for the past eight years, I have initiated and implemented six cultural and educational
projects for children, youth and adults, with a local and international reach. These events have gathered more
than 1,300 participants. The biggest project I have ever organised was commissioned by the Office of the
President of Ukraine. The project united 86 children from the Ukrainian diaspora across 22 countries. As a
result, the 16 best artworks were presented at the Second Floor Art Center at the President’s administration
building in Kiev. As part of the exposition, 200 young artists created a huge mural in the space of the gallery.
To support my candidacy, I would like to mention that in my current position as Visual Arts teacher at the North
Star Academy, I had a chance to enrich my experience of delivering courses online, due to the current
quarantine situation. In short term, together with the school’s team, I was able to adapt the school’s curriculum
to online teaching in order to assure the continuity of our students’ learning.
By applying to the position of Visual Arts teacher at Yeshiva Gedola, I aim to bring to my future students a clear
understanding of the place of art and culture in human’s life; develop solid artistic skills; help children to discover
their creativity and individuality through artistic practices and appreciation of the world’s art and cultural heritage.
I want to guide them on the way of developing their personalities by searching at the intersection of different
social disciplines, of art and technology in terms to be innovative and successful. I will reach this objective by
supporting, appreciating and by finding individual approach to each one of my students.
For these reasons and because of my background, I believe that I will be an excellent candidate who will
contribute her professionalism as a practicing artist, designer and experienced teacher. I am confident that
students will have a lot of success with me.
I thank you in advance for your consideration. Please, do not hesitate to contact me for any additional questions
you may have.
Best regards,
Mariya Kovalevska
