Summary of “The Country Just Over The Fence”
According to the Paul Theroux in the article “ The Country Just Over The Fence” explains
that about his trip to Mexico. Paul starts his explanation from the sign of “ to Mexico” which was
hold near the border. He describes the fence which has divided Arizona from Mexico. Paul
explains about the people who tell about Nogales in the past when there was no fence, and many
tourists could visit this city easily, but after 11/9 tourism have decreased. Now many people,
especially American citizens travel here for cheap dental treatment. Also, many people work for
industrial factories. Paul has wrapped up his article with staying in a hotel, touring to the city,
eating in the restaurant, and speaking with people who help him to be familiar more with the city
and its facilities and its safety. Paul describes the painted houses, tidy streets, and full of
surprises. He suggests the travelers stay longer not just stick to the fence. Paul visited industrial
part of city where there are many skilled workers without education. Paul tells the sad story of
deported people who couldn’t come back to the U.S where as their family lives over there and
some of them even list in the desert. He mentioned these people are helpful to come back to the
us and live with their families. At least, Paul has a beautiful description of borders, towns,
fences, and walls to tourists to have a trip to discover the world.
