Name ________________________________
Yeast Cell Lab
Slide Preparation:
1. Place one drop of yeast solution and one drop of methylene blue on
the slide.
2. Carefully place the coverslip over the drops.
3. Focus the microscope first at low magnification, then medium, then
high power.
Observations:
1. Draw what you see.
2.
What do you see that is changing?
3. Where do you think the bubbles come from?
4. Yeast reproduce by asexually meaning they do NOT make gametes.
What type of cell division would they do (mitosis or meiosis)?
5. Yeast reproduction is called budding because it looks like a
“bud” is growing off the side of a yeast cell. The bud grows
until cytokinesis separates it from the original cell. Look for
this process on your microscope slide. Draw the evidence you
find.
