Globalization and Challenges; What are the globalization’s contemporary issues?
Title of the Article
1. Three (3) Things that I significantly learned from the readings
Based from what I had read, I learned that there are those that oppose globalization
as it causes people who lack resources to have a difficult time thriving due to increased
competition and pressure from the worldwide market. Also, I understood of how
globalization was made easier due to recent technologies such as the internet and cable
television, mainly of how Western culture influenced the rest of the world. Lastly, it taught
me that countries integrating with one another paved the way for easier sharing of culture
and knowledge, leading to better relations and ensuring stability.
2. Three (3) Things that are still unclear to me
After reading the article, it was unclear to me how there were few entries of
globalization in 1986 when there have been many cases of nations forming alliances,
having felt their profound effects such as in the cases of the two world wars. The definition
of globalization is also unclear as it can involve many things, depending on the factors,
thus, it cannot be described by a single meaning. Finally, it was unclear to me why the
authors asked of the possibility that English will eradicate other languages since English
aims to connect people from various cultures, allowing for better communication and more
opportunities to learn about each other.
3. I used to think that….
I used to think that globalization is as easy as the leaders of different countries
participating in a large meeting, coming up with an agreement that will benefit all sides,
and everyone can live peacefully and without worry, but that is never the case. It takes
years before countries can think of a concrete solution that will lead to a growing economy,
a decrease in the unemployment rate, a happier population and less people in the poverty
line. More than often, this is due to corrupt government officials, pocketing the money that
is for the people and existing conflict between nations.
4. Three (3) questions that I want to ask about the readings
Regarding the readings, I want to ask more concrete examples of the advantages
and disadvantages of globalization such as statistical infographics or charts. Secondly, I
want to inquire if there are countries who had very few relations with other nations and
what happened to them. Lastly, I want to ask about the contributions of developed countries
to economies that are still developing.
