Sound
Vibrations that travel
through the air or
another medium and
can be heard is known
as Sound.
When we hit the drum,
membrane of the drum
vibrates producing sound.
When we play a guitar, the
string on it makes to and fro
motion and produces sound.
Sound is produced by vibrating
prong of tuning fork.
FREQUENCY
• Frequency: Number of
vibrations per second is
called frequency of
vibrations. Frequency is
expressed as Hertz (Hz).
PITCH
• Pitch of Sound: Pitch of sound
depends on frequency of
vibration. A high pitched
sound has high frequency,
while a low pitched sound has
low frequency.
AMPLITUDE
• The maximum
displacement of an object
from its mean position
while vibrating is known as
its amplitude.
LOUDNESS
• Bigger vibrations give
louder sounds.
• Loudness of the sound
depends on the amplitude
of the sound.
