Three Period Lesson Pink Tower
Material Description:
Ten cubes painted pink graded in size.
The largest is 10 cm3 and the smallest is 1 cm3.
Preparation:
The child should have worked with the material and feel familiar with them.
Presentation:
1. Have the child bring the cubes to the rug in the prescribed manner.
2. Select the largest cube and place it in front of the child
3. Select the smallest cube and place it in front of the child.
First Period:
4. Touch the largest cube. Say “This is large. This is large. This is large.”
5. Touch the smallest cube. Say “This is small. This is small. This is small. “
Second Period:
6. Say, “Show me large.” The child should indicate the largest cube.
7. Say, “Show me small” The child should indicate the smallest cube.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 three times.
9. Mix the positions of the rods and repeat 6 and 7 another three times. If the
child is successful, move on the third period.
Third Period:
10.Indicate the largest cube. Say, “What is this?” The child should answer,
“Large”
11.Indicate the smallest cube. Say, “What is this?” The child should answer,
“Small”
12.If the child is not able to answer correctly, you must repeat the First and
Second Period.
13.Repeat steps 10 and 11 three times.
14.Mix the positions of the cubes and repeat steps 10 and 11 another 3 times.
15.Return the cubes to its designated location in tower form.
