Introduction/Background/Rationale
Improper waste disposal is one of the biggest environmental issues here in the
Surigao City. Despite strong environmental activism among Filipinos, the Philippines still
suffers from a trash problem. It caused bigger problems that affect not only the environment
but also the health and life of the people. Waste management is important because it
protects the environment and the health of the population.
We always encourage and tell people to properly manage their waste but it is still
not enough. A lot of government project focuses in waste management but not all are
successful. We need a solution that can make each individual in the community participate.
This problem was observed by the researchers in the area of Brgy. Washington,
Surigao City, Surigao del Norte. They observed that most of the people just throw away
their trashes in highway, even if there are containers already installed in the area they still
tend to left their garbage everywhere.
This issue encourage the researchers to do an action research on proper waste
management in the area to help the community improved and avoid health issues.
This action research will be initiated to Brgy. Washington, Bonotan area.
III.
Description of the Project
The aim of the researchers study was to have a symposium and critically evaluate
the people in Bonotan area Barangay Washington the proper waste management including
garbage disposal.
Waste management in one of the problem in the city. With the objectives and
strategies that will be discuss during the symposium it will give them the idea about proper
waste management.
The strategies and objectives in proper waste management will be executed to the
people through symposium. Other evaluation activities will be done after symposium.
Through this action plan it can help our Barangay in a waste management.

Goals and Objective
Goal is to help maintain a cleaner environment and reduces the probability of
contamination of soil and ground water. We want to teach the people on how to protect our
environment.

Monitoring and Evaluation
The researcher will inform the public with the present issue by public meetings and
disseminating of brochures about the issue which is Proper Disposal of Garbage in Brgy.
Washinton specifically Bonotan area.
The researchers will ask some residents to hear their opinions and suggestions about
the issue and to know the proper solution or action that should be implemented, the
researchers collaborate with the Brgy. Officials and community to solve the problem
through symposium, voting for the best solution or action and workshops. And with the
consultation of experts about environmental and improvement it ensure them that the
solution is attainable.
The target steps will be accomplished within 1 week.
