HOMEOSTASIS
The way the body keeps
balance
Is
the way the body keeps in balance
The
body needs to keep constant level
of body temperature, water, and blood
pressure
Homeo;
means same, stasis; means
condition (to keep the same condition)
WHAT IS HOMEOSTASIS
Body
must keep internal
temperature of 37 degrees
If
the body gets too hot…we sweat!
HOMEOSTASIS
Body
temperature is maintained by
NEGATIVE FEEDBACK (Bad Information)
Feeling
better
hot (negative) sweat  feel

occurs to improve a
MAINTAINING HOMEOSTASIS
The
body sends messages to correct
negative situations in two ways
1.
send a message along a NERVE
2.
send a message in the form of
Hormones
HOMEOSTATIC MESSENGERS

Nerves;

Are cells that quickly send messages to and from the spinal cord or
the brain

For example: how do you body move your finger from the fire?

The muscles received a message from the nerves in the brain and then
moved the finger
• Hormones;
• Hormones are molecules produced by endocrine glands (pancreas)
• For example;
• you eat a cake  blood sugar increase pancreas produces insulin
blood sugar comes back to normal
HOMEOSTATIC MESSENGERS
 Protein
 Step
synthesis occurs in two steps
1; Transcription ( in the nucleus)
 DNA
 Step
is transcribed into RNA
2; Translation (in the cytoplasm) by ribosomes
 RNA
is translated into Protein
