 Explain and annotate a passage being discussed (40)
 Diagram a sentence to its constituents based on its
function (30)
 In a multiple choice work, orally explain why the answer is
correct and why two of the choices are wrong (25)
 During discussion, politely disagree with a classmate or
teacher’s assertion and provide textual support and/or
relevant evidence to support your point (15)
 Memorize and present an oral interpretation of a poem
of at least 25 lines (this may be done once individually);
the poem is based on a list that will be provided by the
teacher. (*50)
 During class discussions, meaningfully allude to a
CLASSIC, CULTURALLY SIGNIFICANT ARTWORK of FILM,
or MAJOR EVENT in HISTORY and EXPLICITLY connect it
to the topic being discussed (20)
 Point out the reason for an author’s specific use of
structure or syntax and explain how or in what way those
choices communicate the author’s point (30)
 Connect one piece of literature to an earlier piece we
studied based on a shared or similar use of literary
devices and/or rhetoric techniques (15)
