Poetic devices are the most important thing in a song. They give a deeper meaning and emphasizes the most important things in the lyrics of a song. In the song Car Radio by Twenty One Pilots, they use symbols to make the song more meaningful. For an example they use a car radio to symbolize distractions to external conflicts. In this song I have found a metaphor, personification and a symbol. I have found the most essential poetic devices in this song Car Radio by Twenty One Pilots uses multiple types of poetic devices. For an example the lyric “quiet is violent” is a metaphor and means keeping your thoughts quiet could harm you mentally and physically. It could also mean quietness will lead to terrible thoughts. “My skin will scream” is an example of personification and means that he is self-conscience on how he looks. “They fill with fire exhale desire” is a metaphor. It means that he is inhaling all of the sin and exhaling desires of this world. These poetic devices are very important to understand the theme of this song. The theme of this song to me is to deal with your problems instead of using distractions to forget them. The car radio symbolizes the distractions and in the song someone steals the car radio and now he has to sit in silence. He can no longer stop the bad thoughts in his head and forget the problems he is facing in his life; “quiet is violent”. The theme could also be to not give up when problems may arise in your life. This song is very poetic and explains all the problems that the world throws at us every day and how everyone will face problems.
