Using your graphic organizer, answer the following questions about the cell cycle and mitosis as
completely as possible. Be sure to use examples and evidence from the reading!
1. Why is it important for the chromosomes to make copies of themselves BEFORE mitosis occurs?
(Hint- think about the end results of mitosis!)
2. If you get a cut, your skin cells undergo mitosis to make more skin cells in order to repair the cut.
Briefly describe how mitosis helps your skin to repair itself. Why is mitosis important to repairing
injuries?
3. Review the steps of mitosis you drew and the descriptions you wrote in the previous activities after
viewing the video, animation and slides. In the space below, describe in detail how you would revise your
drawings and descriptions based on what you now know about mitosis.
