What is matter?
Anything that has mass and occupies space is
called matter.
EXAMPLES?
Everything is made
up of particles.
The kinetic
energy(Movem
ent) of the
particles
increases with
temperature.
The particles
move around.
They are
described as
having kinetic
energy.
Solids are hard
and cannot be
squashed
(compressed).
They are heavy.
They cannot flow
so stay as one
shape.
Liquids can flow.
Their shape can
change. Liquids
cannot be
compressed.
Gases take up a
lot of space.
They are light
and can move
about. They can
be compressed.
Draw out three boxes in your
book.
Draw particles to show what
you think a solid, liquid and gas
would look like.
Solids
Liquids
Gases
gas
Solid – particles are
not able to move.
They vibrate around
a fixed point.
Liquid – particles are
able to move and flow.
