 Bachelor’s Degrees Granted Report Degrees Earned 2014‐15 February 2016 The Minnesota Private College Council annually reports degrees earned by students attending a Minnesota college or university. This report focuses on bachelor degrees earned by sector. Special focus is given to the proportion of degrees earned by race, detail of all degrees earned from Minnesota institutions, the share contributed by MPCC members and an analysis of STEM degrees earned in Minnesota. The analysis compares completions for first majors only. Here are key highlights: Total Bachelor’s Degrees Earned  In Minnesota, 33,747 individuals earned bachelor’s degrees in 2014‐15.  Minnesota Private College Council (MPCC) member institutions awarded 30% of all bachelor’s degrees in the state. o This is compared to 32% by MnSCU 4‐Year institutions and 31% for the University of Minnesota.  While MPCC members awarded 30% of bachelor’s degrees, degrees awarded in physical sciences, history, foreign languages, English, biology, social science, health professions and math were awarded in greater proportion. Bachelor’s Degrees Earned by Students of Color 

Of 5,023 bachelor’s degrees earned by domestic students of color, 30% were earned from MPCC members compared to 32% from the University of Minnesota and 31% from MnSCU 4‐Year institutions. Students of color accounted for 16% of bachelor’s degrees earned from MPCC members compared to 17% of those earned from the University of Minnesota and 15% from MnSCU 4‐Year institutions. Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)* Bachelor’s Degrees 

Of the approximately 6,864 bachelor’s degrees earned in STEM disciplines, 27% were earned at MPCC members compared to 49% from the University of Minnesota and 20% from MnSCU 4‐Year institutions. o 19% of bachelor degrees earned from MPCC members were in STEM compared to 33% at the University of Minnesota and 12% at MnSCU 4‐Year institutions. 24% of bachelor’s degrees earned in STEM disciplines by students of color were earned from MPCC members compared to 54% from the University of Minnesota and 19% from MnSCU 4‐Year institutions. *STEM disciplines include degrees earned in Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Computer and Information Sciences, Engineering, Engineering, Technologies and Engineering‐related Fields, Mathematics and Statistics, Natural Resources and Conservation and Physical Sciences
