Introduction:
The Charles Darwin Research Station (CDRS), located inside the Galapagos
National Park and operated by the Charles Darwin Foundation (CDF), is one
of the premier visitor sites in the Galapagos Islands. Every year it receives
well over 100,000 visitors, including the majority of the islands' foreign
visitors and cruise ship passengers.
Taking advantage of the flow of visitors, the CDF is developing the “Adopt a
Plant” program as a way to engage the public with the Galapagos Verde
2050 project, in order to develop media exposure and generate financial
support to provide project sustainability.
“Galápagos Verde 2050” is a multi - institutional and interdisciplinary project
that actively contributes to the conservation of the natural capital of
Galapagos and the “good living” of its human population using Groasis
Technology as a tool to implement a successful model of sustainable
agricultural production and ecological restoration.
This ambitious project carried out by the Charles Darwin Foundation and the
Galapagos National Park Directorate in partnership with local institutions and
founded for the first three years by the COmON Foundation, is based on the
“Four Returns, Three Zones” restoration model developed by the Ecosystem
Return Foundation (ERF).
