The following described components and installation examples for satellite receiving systems are
meant to assist you with planning and cost calculations (no guarantee of completeness).
Obviously, the examples cannot cover all potential installation possibilities which the specialist
installer may be confronted with in daily practice.
Nevertheless, we hope that, even for those systems not presented, appropriate installations may be
derived from the examples shown.

Offset parabolic antennas
Kathrein parabolic antennas are manufactured from aluminium with
outstanding features, which include stability, strong durability, high precision and
stability of shape. The powder-coated support for the
receiving electronics (feed systems), which is made of galvanised
sheet steel, is included in the scope of delivery of the antenna.
For ASTRA single receiving systems, satisfactory nation-wide reception in
Germany is possible with parabolic antennas with a diameter of 57 cm or 75 cm.
Kathrein offset parabolic antennas have been repeatedly acclaimed by specialist
publications for their material quality, simple installation and good receiving
characteristics.

Kathrein supplies offset
parabolic antennas with
diameters of 57 cm , 75 cm and 90 cm.
Multifeed reception
Multifeed reception requires two or three feed systems mounted on one parabolic antenna to receive signals from satellites occupying two or three different
orbital positions.
Kathrein components make it possible to set up multifeed systems for many
subscribers.
For multifeed reception, Kathrein recommends using a parabolic antenna with a
diameter of 90 cm or larger.
Community antenna systems
Kathrein offers the systems UFO®compact, UFO®plus and UFO®DIGIplus for
MATV systems with central signal processing.
Offset parabolic antenna with a diameter of 90 cm
and 2 feed systems for reception of 2 satellites.
Receiving electronics (Feed systems)
Kathrein feed systems (LNBs) comply with the highest technical standards
and are completely protected against environmental effects in a
protective cover. The feed systems referred to in the following satellite
system examples are solely feed systems for offset parabolic antennas.
Note:
The elevation difference of the satellites, which
are to be received, should be lower than 0.7°.

Receivers
All receivers comply with the latest technical standards and are
easily operated by means of a remote control which is included
in the scope of delivery.
A generous assortment of sockets on the rear panel of the
receiver allows universal connection possibilities for a TV set,
video recorder and hi-fi system.
For each type of application, there is an ideal receiver; In the
Kathrein product range, you will definitely find the right unit to
meet your requirements.
Analogue and digital receivers, ADR compatible receivers and
twin receivers for reception of radio and TV programmes are all
included in the extensive product range.

Voltage surge protector
KAZ 11, order no. 507205
The voltage surge protector KAZ 11 is used in receiving and
distribution systems for protecting the components against
transient voltages.
It supplements the potential equalisation measures prescribed
for antenna systems according to EN 50083-1. The unit
reduces surges between the centre and outer conductor of
coaxial cables to safe values.
The KAZ 11 is directly connected to the coaxial cables leading
to the units which need to be protected
(e.g. antenna amplifiers, switching matrices, etc.).
Block diagram
Installation
For the parabolic antennas with a diameter of 57, 75 or 90 cm,
there are seldom installation problems thanks to their small dimensions. If the imaginary, uninterrupted line between the antenna and satellite is assured, a variety of mounting types is
feasible.
The simplest mounting for the 57 and 75 cm
antenna is achieved via a wall mounting.
Attention!
Satellite systems must be grounded in conformity with the VDE
regulations (observe EN 50083, part 1).
A roof installation is as feasible...
...as the installation on the garage or
terrace.
Safety instructions regarding the mounting site for antennas
Kathrein antennas are designed and produced according to the
standard EN 50083, part 1.
When selecting a mounting site, typical structural characteristics, such as susceptibility to oscillation, installation on the
edge of the roof or building or on cylindrical structure, must
reckon with a higher wind load according to DIN 1055, part
4/08.86 or DIN 4131.
