INCOMING STUDENTS

Dear students,
I have the pleasure to inform you that the on-line application for the Spring semester of the academic year
2015/2016 is open and it’s available from 12th of October 2015 until 27th of November 2015

STEPS for INCOMING STUDENTS
1. Be sure that your Home university officially nominated you, by sending an e-mail to exchangedesign@polimi.it . The nomination is MANDATORY. Without the official nomination prior to your
candidacy, I am not able to consider your exchange application.
2. REGISTER in order to get your PERSON CODE and PASSWORD
a) Link to http://www.polimi.it/en/english-version/
b) Online Services
c) New User? > Register (¡use the complete name as it appears in your passport/identity card!)
d) Complete the form and set the password (¡ note down the password for further use!)
e) Go to your email account and click on the confirmation link
3. Link to the ONLINE SERVICES and insert your PERSON CODE and PASSWORD
4. (Set to English) and click on: APPLICATION FORMS, Incoming exchange students: ONLINE-APPLICATION
f) Complete all the missing parts of the application form
5. SAVE THE .PDF PRINTOUT of the application form as a proof of having submitted your candidacy
6. Send a scanned copy of your PASSPORT (for NON-EU citizens) or IDENTITY CARD (for EU citizens)
by e-mail to: exchange-design@polimi.it.
UNCOMPLETED APPLICATION FORMS (without the Home university signature and stamp or without the copy of
the passport (identity card for European citizens) WON’T BE CONSIDERED!
In due time AFTER the APPLICATION DEADLINE, nominated students will receive the acceptance by e-mail (for
European citizens) and by courier to the international office of the Home University (only for Non-EU citizens).
In this way Non-EU students can apply for the Visa to the local Italian Consulate/Embassy in order to enter Italy.

_about COURSES
According to the agreements signed, we accept students to attend our courses and sit the final exams.
You can’t develop your Final Degree Project. As far as the internship is concerned, there isn’t any guarantee
for it.

Please notice that most of the courses at bachelor level are taught in ITALIAN.
The definitive choice of the courses and the learning agreement will be defined UPON ARRIVAL under the
academic advisor supervision, so that all students will have their complete course schedule before the
beginning of the lectures.
Strictly in case of necessity, students will be able to make changes to their study plan within the first week
after the start of the lectures.
According to your level, you can select courses of B.Sc. or M.Sc.

*Master level courses are opened only to students that have already done at least 3 years of university.
**Due to the high number of applications for MSc in Product Design courses the access may be defined after a
selection. Students applying to Product Design are warmly invited to select courses also among our other fields
such as: Design & Engineering, Communication Design, Interior Design etc.
Students’ Study Plan should be based on the current academic offer.

Some courses are taught in English and you can distinguish the language of the course by the flag displayed in
our website

RULES to make your Study Plan/Learning Agreement:






Minimum amount of 10 credits per semester. MANDATORY
Maximum amount of 30-36 credits per semester.
You should choose the courses according to the field and level you expressed in your application
online. Note that due to the high number of applications for MSc in Product Design, the access to some
of the courses may be defined after a selection. In that case students are warmly invited to select
courses also among the other fields such as: Design & Engineering, Communication Design, Interior
Design etc.
M.Sc. Product Design students may be asked to submit their portfolios in order to be admitted in the
Design Studios
Maximum 2 Laboratori (Design Studios) or 1 Lab. Sintesi Finale (Final Synthesis Design Studio)
Maximum 2 Elective Courses
Maximum amount of 12 credits in other Schools (Architecture or Engineering)
In order to guarantee the good quality of the academic offer the allocation in the courses will depend on
availability, the fulfilment of certain requisites (such as the study field and level of previous studies) and
overlapping. We recommend you to be flexible and have alternative courses ready and approved by your Home
Institution academic advisors.

_about ACADEMIC CALENDAR
1ST SEMESTER:
Official start date: 05/10/2015
LESSONS start on 05/10/2015 and finish on 29/01/2016
EXAM SESSION  from 01/02/2016 to 05/03/2016
Each professor will define the exams’ date according to the didactic office. I don’t know the specific dates of
all the exams.
Official end date: 05/03/2016
2ND SEMESTER:
Official start date: 07/03/20106
LESSONS start on 07/03/2016 and finish on 24/06/2016
EXAM SESSION  from 27/06/2016 to 30/07/2016
Each professor will define the exams’ date according to the didactic office. I don’t know the specific dates of
all the exams.
Official end date: 30/07/2016
_AT ARRIVAL:
At the arrival the accepted students will be required to present the following original document for the
identification and registration:
 Passport / Identity card (only for European citizens). The same used in the application form.
In due time before arriving accepted students will receive by e-mail with information regarding:
 Identification process;




Definition of the Study plan/Learning agreement;
Welcome Day;
Italian language course inscription
Any other useful information to plan your settlement in Milan
After the arrival and the identification process, you will be required to self-enrol online.
 Please, be aware that THE BEGINNING DATE OF THE STUDY PERIOD AT POLITECNICO WILL COINCIDE WITH
THE DATE OF THE SELF-ENROLMENT AND CANNOT BE CHANGED AT THE END OF YOUR STAY.
_AT DEPARTURE:
Any departure before the end of the exam sessions doesn’t guarantee that you complete the exams and the
exchange procedures in the proper way.
In fact it’s your own responsibility and the STUDESK won’t intervene to sort out any inconvenience due to
earlier departures.
_about ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSE_throughout the semester in Milan
Politecnico di Milano offers an Italian language course free of charge. I’ll send you the link to register online in
due time.
_about ACCOMMODATION
 ANY REQUEST SENT TO THE STUDESK WILL BE CANCELLED SINCE STUDESK DESIGN IS NOT INVOLVED IN
HOUSING
For any request in one of Politecnico di Milano residences, you should refer directly to the competent office
visiting visit www.residenze.polimi.it. Click on the city you wish to live in to see a list of residences. For each
residence you will find a brief explanation of the accommodation, how to reach it, facilities, closing times,
availability and costs. In this case, you should plan an alternative solution beforehand, like spending your first
night in a hotel.
