KLAMATH 9-1-1 EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS DISTRICT
Director’s Briefing
9-1-1 Consolidation Discussions
I would like to share some important information regarding a discussion amongst our elected
representatives in Salem on the consolidation of
9-1-1 call taking centers across the state.
A study was commissioned by our legislators in
an attempt to ascertain the optimum number of
9-1-1 call taking centers for the State of Oregon.
This report; known as the L.R. Kimball report
offered 3 options, allow the natural migration of
9-1-1 centers to consolidate as necessary, force
consolidation into 9 regional call centers, force
consolidation into 1 mega call center. The report was not able to provide the exact optimum
number as requested because it truly is a local
government/citizen/and responder’s choice.
Klamath 9-1-1 is the 4th largest 9-1-1 jurisdiction in the State with a very busy call volume
and does not support the forced consolidation
thought process. If Klamath 9-1-1 was to be
forced to consolidate with another 9-1-1 center,
we would lose our local call taking and dispatching services. I don’t think anyone in
Klamath County wants their cry for help to be
answered in Salem or Bend where the call taker
doesn’t know our county, roadways or landmarks. Additionally, the piece of this puzzle
that is not discussed openly is that the dispatching services would not go with the 9-1-1 call
taking responsibilities. Therefore, local re-
sponders would have to fund their own dispatching
center, more than likely through user fees because
the current funds that operate our agency would be
absorbed.
Holly
Our District encourages you to contact your
elected representatives in Salem and voice your
concern for the path of the current 9-1-1 consolidation discussions. Please give me a call if you
would like additional information on this subject
and thank you for your support of your local 9-1-1
Center.
Jeanine E. Dilley
Holly joined Klamath 9-1-1 in October of
2007. Since then she has not only succeeded
as a dispatcher, but also as a trainer. Holly is an
instrumental factor in training new hires. Holly
is a native of Klamath Falls. Before joining
9-1-1 she worked in banking. When asked
what she enjoys most about her career in public
safety she stated she enjoys that no two days
are alike, and like Lisa, helping people of
course. When not at work, Holly takes pleasure
in watching her twin boys grow up.
Spotlight on Staff
Mike
Who is that on the other end of the telephone or
radio? Throughout the next several issues we will
take the time to introduce several of your local dispatchers. They come from a wide range of backgrounds and have a depth of experience.
Lisa
Lisa just marked her 28th anniversary here at
Klamath 9-1-1. Congratulations Lisa! Lisa started
her career just down the road in Dorris, CA as a
dispatcher for the local police department. When
asked what she enjoys most about the job, Lisa
stated she enjoys the challenge of changing technology, and of course, being able to help people.
When not at work, Lisa likes spending time with
her mother, attending concerts, and reading.
Mike is one of our newest members of
Klamath 9-1-1. He joined us in November of
last year. Since then he has attended the Oregon Basic Telecommunications Academy in
Salem and has achieved solo status as a dispatcher. When asked what he enjoys most
about his profession he stated that he likes that
it is always different. He also said that he gets
a real sense of accomplishment after the day’s
job. Mike is an avid skateboarder and also enjoys riding his bike. He likes spending time
with his family, generally having fun, and being happy.
