Manufacturing and Technology and specialising in Electrical Engineering

Career opportunities in Electrical Engineering
Electrical Engineer
Electrical Engineers design, build and maintain electrical control
systems, machinery and equipment, so you’ll need an eye for
detail. You could be working on projects including transport
networks and signalling, solar panelling and lift systems.
Electrical Engineers can earn a starting salary of around £20,000
and progress to £55,000 per year.
Electrical Installer
As an Installer, you would be responsible for adjusting,
repairing or replacing defective wiring and relays in ignition,
lighting, air-conditioning, and safety control systems, using
electricians’ tools.
As an Electrical Installer, you could earn between £17,000 and
£25,000 a year.

ENGLISH AND MATHS
English and Maths are often valued as two
of the most important skills by employers
and universities, therefore as part of your
study programme at KCC, you will enhance
these skills and learn how to apply them to
the Engineering sector.

Electrical Installation
WHAT IS THE STUDY PROGRAMME ABOUT?
This study programme allows you to develop the
knowledge and craft skills needed for a career
in the electrical industry. It covers basic wiring,
testing and fabrication skills, similar to those
needed for domestic properties, as well as
technical knowledge, personal development
and industry awareness. You will learn in state
of the art facilities and be taught by industry
experienced and supportive staff.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
You will assessed through both practical work
and written assignments.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You will need at least 3 GCSEs or equivalent at
grade D including English and Maths.
HOW LONG WILL THE STUDY PROGRAMME LAST?
One year

You can progress onto Level 2 Diploma in

WHAT IS THE STUDY PROGRAMME ABOUT?
Level 3
EAL Diploma in
Electrical Installation
WHAT IS THE STUDY PROGRAMME ABOUT?
This qualification allows you to acquire knowledge
and craft skills of electrical installation, utilising
the IET On-Site guide, as well as being introduced
to how regulations, including BS 7671, affect
electrical installation. The qualification covers
standard circuits as described in the On-Site guide.
This study programme has been specifically
designed for students who have completed
a Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation
and who are interested in pursuing a carer
as an electrician.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
The majority of assessment will be through
tutor-led internal assessments with a smaller
proportion of assessment set externally by the
awarding body.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You will need a Level 2 Diploma in Electrical
Installation and GCSE English and Maths at
grade C.
