Numerical Simulations for Laser Driven Ion Beams
The thesis work is aimed to predict theoretically the characteristics of ion
beams generated through the interaction of femtosecond lasers with solid
targets at ultrahigh intensities, which will be available at the future multi-PW
laser facilities.
Numerical and analytical approaches will serve to identify scaling laws for
laser-driven ion acceleration in different regimes. Advanced target geometries
will be investigated in order to optimize the maximum proton/ion energy and
total number, as well as to reduce the particle beam divergence.
This work will be performed within the ELI (http://www.extreme-lightinfrastructure.eu) pan-European project.
