CP-181 COMFORTSEAL is an easy to use water base duct closure
mastic. It can be used on fiberglass duct board systems, joining flex duct
to rigid connectors or on metal duct systems. It is safe to use, easy to
clean-up, and will not attack plastics or metals.
USES
To form an airtight seal on all U.L. 181 listed rigid fiberglass and/or

Application Guide and Suggested Procedures
1.
Do not thin.
2.
Clean surfaces of all loose dirt, rust, and oil, per duct manufacturers recommendations.
3.
Never apply over wet/frosted surfaces or insulation. Do not apply in freezing conditions.
4.
Prior to use, keep CP-181 stored at a minimum of 50ºF for optimum results.
5.
Close all seams of U.L. 181 Rigid Fiberglass and/or Flexible Air Ducts per duct manufacturers recommendations. Brush
apply a uniform 3” wide tack coat of CP-181 centered about the seam at a coverage rate of 1 gal./100 sq. ft. (wet film
thickness=.016”).
6.
Reinforce the seam by embedding 3” wide 20 x 10, open weave, 5 mill thick fiberglass scrim (1.75 oz./sq. yd.) Pull taut and
smooth all wrinkles.
7.
Brush apply a uniform finish coat of CP-181 at a coverage rate of 1 gal./100 sq. ft. for a total application of 2 gal./100 sq. ft.
(.032” wet film).
8.
Allow finished CP-181 joints to dry a minimum of 24 hours at 70º F before moving or pressure testing the duct system.
NOTE: Since field temperature/humidity conditions may vary from controlled laboratory conditions, longer set times may be
required for specific installations.
9.
If duct system is to be painted, CP-181 must be completely dry before applying paint.
10. Scrape or wipe up spills, drips, or excess CP-181 immediately. Clean tools with hot soapy water.
11. Not recommended for spray or trowel applications.
