Unit Application
Bebco Model CX-WAC/HP is an electrically powered
hazardous location climate control unit designed
to cool permanent structures. The units are
available in 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 5.0 and
6.0 tonnages and most units can be factory set,
at time of order, to operate on 208/230 VAC single
phase, 208/230 VAC three phase or 460 VAC
three phase power supplies. The unit is designed
to have an external electrical rating approved
for Class I, Division 2 / Zone 2, Groups B, C, & D
/ IIA, IIB hazardous areas. In addition, the unit is
available with a choice of two interior electrical
ratings. The first interior electrical rating option is
designed and approved for buildings classified
as nonhazardous locations as a result of Type
Z pressurization in accordance with the NEC NFPA 70, Articles 500 & 501 and the NFPA 496.
The second interior electrical rating option is rated
and approved for Div. 2 / Zone 2, Groups B,C, & D
/ IIA, IIB hazardous (classified) locations.

Description
Bebco Model CX-WAC/HP Commercial Grade
Air Conditioners are self-contained wall mounted
units with all necessary components to supply
a room or building with recirculated air that is
temperature controlled and humidity limited.
The HVAC system features two isolated sections,
stacked one atop the other. The lower section,
known as the condenser compartment, contains
the condenser coil, condenser fan motor,
condenser fan and shroud assembly, compressor,
and pressure sensors which supply the unit
controls with signals to activate and deactivate
the compressor and condenser fan. The upper
section, known as the evaporator compartment,
contains the evaporator coil, optional heater
elements, an evaporator blower wheel and motor
assembly, electrical controls and a return air filter
element.
The units are contained within either a 316
14 gauge stainless steel or 20 gauge sheet metal
housing that features wall surface mounting
flanges, ventilation grills on the condenser
compartment, and doorway drip shield flanges.
The units are intended for use in outdoor locations
and feature a weather resistant paint finish, which
can also be refinished with white enamel, but can
also be painted any custom color requested.
Model CX-WAC/HP units are intended for use
in areas where exposure to a severely corrosive
atmosphere is considered unlikely or very infrequent.
The unit bottom support bracket, return air
filter grille, and supply air register are shipped
loose in the crate, to complete field installation.
In addition, custom supply ducts with registers
can be furnished upon request to distribute air
evenly to multiple rooms or the entire length of a
large single room.

Manufacturing Process
The unit is then made suitable for either a
Nonhazardous or Div. 2 / Zone 2 building interior.
For Div. 2 / Zone 2 interiors, the electrical controls
and barriers for a Div. 2 / Zone 2 thermostat are
installed in a NEMA 7 explosion proof enclosure,
along with sealed flex conduit, appropriate seals
and an evaporator blower, modified to contain
a Div. 2 / Zone 2 UL Listed TENV Motor with
hermetically sealed thermal overloads and spark
free aluminum fan blades.
Finally, For Nonhazardous interiors, all electrical
controls are placed in a NEMA 12 enclosure
and the original evaporator fan is reinstalled into
the unit, along with jacketed wiring systems for
component interconnection. The interior of the
unit is silicone sealed at every point of body panel
attachment and fitted with a special flange and rear
door assembly to provide a positive seal against
the entrance of flammable gases or vapors. All
units are then fully inspected and operationally
tested to ensure quality of the final product.

Moving to the condenser compartment, a special
wiring enclosure is then fitted to the compressor,
and sealed flex conduit and form seven conduit
fittings are added to ensure that all high voltage
wiring is suitable for a Div. 2 / Zone 2, Group B,C,
& D / IIA, IIB Area. Next, the condenser coil motor
and fan blade are replaced with a Div. 2 / Zone
2 UL Listed TENV motor with hermetically sealed
thermal overloads and an aluminum spark free fan
blade.


Starting with documented instructions and a full
inspection and operational test of the unit, Bebco
begins the conversion process in the evaporator
compartment, where all electrical components
and the evaporator fan are carefully removed
and stored for later use. All commercial grade
fiberglass insulation is then removed from the
bottom section of the evaporator compartment,
and is replaced with industrial grade foil back
insulation. In addition, a solid steel bottom
plate with mounting rails are added to seal the
compartment and accommodate electrical control
enclosure mounting brackets.

Operation & Service
Initial start-up is accomplished by ensuring that the thermostat controller for the HVAC system is set
to the "off " condition. Power can then be applied to a main disconnect switch for the unit after any
conditions such as building pressurization have been satisfied. The HVAC system's thermostat can
then be set to activate heating or cooling functions. During normal operation, the HVAC system will
cycle on and off as needed to meet thermal control demands. Power to the HVAC system must be
disengaged prior to accessing the HVAC system evaporator compartment. Please contact a Bebco
Sales Associate or refer to the installation, operation and maintenance manual for more information
regarding operation.
DIVISION I APPLICATION NOTE
"22" & "G2" Unit Ratings
The most distinguishing difference between CXWAC Models, besides the obvious difference
of size, is the classification of the evaporator
compartment. As noted above, since the units are
intended for use in a Div. 2 / Zone 2, Group B,
C, & D / IIA, IIB Hazardous Area, the condenser
compartment components and all associated
wiring are rated for Div. 2 / Zone 2 Areas. But
the evaporator compartment components are
only exposed to the air which is recirculated
within Building. For this reason, Bebco designs
units that are suitable either for a Nonhazardous
interior or a Div. 2 / Zone 2 interior. The units are
distinguished by a segment of the Model Number
that identifies the unit's electrical rating. A rating
of "22" represents a unit that is suitable for a
Div. 2 / Zone 2 Area both inside and outside of the
building or room. A rating of "G2" represents a unit
that is suitable for a Div. 2 / Zone 2 Area on the
exterior of the building or room, but which is only
suitable for a Nonhazardous Area within the room
or building. The downgraded "G2" unit is therefore,
by design, only suitable for building interiors
that are rated Nonhazardous, but is offered at a
significantly lower price than the "22" units.

"22" Units are designed and approved for use on control rooms or buildings classified as Class I,
Division 2 / Zone 2, Groups B,C&D / IIA, IIB and contain no internal source of ignitable concentrations
of gases or vapors (analyzer rooms).
"22" Units are also designed and approved for use on analyzer rooms or buildings classified as
Class I, Division 2 / Zone 2, Groups B,C&D / IIA, IIB, if the room or building is ventilated in accordance
with NFPA 496 section 8.3.1.

"G2" Units are designed for use on structures
with nonhazardous interior ratings as a result
of Type Z pressurization in accordance with
NFPA 496. The structure must contain no
internal source of ignitable concentrations of
gases or vapors, e.g. analyzer rooms.
"11 and 21" as well as "1G, G1 and 12" Units
incorporate a Type "Y" pneumatic purging
system to render all or some Division 2 rated
motors and conduit systems suitable for a
Division 1 Group C & D Hazardous Areas.
"G2" Units must be powered by a circuit
located after or separate from a disconnect
switch for the pressurization unit, in
accordance with NFPA 496 section 5.4.9
Environmental Control Units Division
User must provide a clean source of instrument
air or inert gas that is essentially free of any
ignitable concentration of combustible gas,
and operate purging system in complete
accordance with manufacturer's instructions
and NFPA 496.
