Saxon Wharf
Saxon Wharf is one of 18 locations owned and operated by
Marina Developments Limited (MDL).
As the UK’s leading marina group, we offer customers
unrivalled choice and pride ourselves on our outstanding
level of service and security.
All of our marinas offer extensive facilities and services
including on site electricity and fresh water, 24 hour staffing
and security all year round, showers, toilets and car parking.
Situated on Southampton’s River Itchen, north of Shamrock
Quay, Saxon Wharf is a marine trade centre offering outstanding
facilities for superyachts and other large craft. It boasts a 200 ton
boat hoist – the largest in the UK – and
heavy-duty, fully serviced pontoons
accommodating boats up to 80 metres.
Besides ample space for storage ashore,
there is a wide range of marine trade
tenants on site offering a variety of
professional services. Located near the
centre of Southampton, with easy access to
the motorway network, Saxon Wharf is the
ideal location for big boats in need of
secure, quick turnaround lift-outs, repair
work or full scale refits.
As for the cruising possibilities, they are almost endless.
Southampton Water itself offers safe, sheltered sailing while the
Hamble and Itchen Rivers are perfect for leisurely exploration.
Keen racers have the legendary waters of the Solent on the
doorstep, and around the Isle of Wight there are numerous bays
and harbours. West of Southampton Water lie picturesque
Bucklers Hard and the lively port of Lymington. For confident
sailors, the Channel Islands make a perfect weekend away.

SITE APPROACH
Pilotage
We have three marinas close by, offering first-class
berthing and marina services. Annual berth holders
receive exclusive membership of Club Outlook,
giving a wide range of valuable benefits such as
visitor berthing or storage ashore at any of our
marinas*, unlimited short-stay berthing plus
generous discounts on marine services and products.
Visitors meanwhile, can join Cruising Club for free
and enjoy great benefits such as a free night’s berth
on every seventh visit to any of our marinas.
By Sea
Proceed up
Southampton Water
keeping clear of all
commercial shipping
and beware of
frequent cross Solent
Hi Speed and Ro-Ro
ferries. At Weston
Shelf green buoy, near
the junction of the
Rivers Itchen and Test,
keep to starboard up
the Itchen and observe
the 6 knot speed limit.
Go past the Itchen
Bridge and Shamrock
Quay; follow the left
bend past No 9 green
beacon. Saxon Wharf
is to port, opposite
Kemps Marina. It is
essential to call on
VHF Ch 80 or by
mobile for a vacant
berth. With prior
arrangement, large
vessels can phone for a
‘follow me’ boat service.
Shamrock Quay
This 255 berth marina is a major centre for refit and boat
building. With many specialist trades on site as well as a bar,
restaurant, café and shops, it is an excellent marina for short
visits or long stays. Following a £1.5 million refurbishment, it
now boasts a 70 metre specialist superyacht berth, a 60 metre
visitor berth and a new shower and toilet block with a
purpose-designed facility for disabled berth holders.
Southampton city centre is a few minutes away and with easy
access to the M3, the marina is within easy reach of London.
Ocean Village Marina
Situated in the centre of Southampton, close to shops,
restaurants, cinemas and bars, Ocean Village Marina is also
home to The Royal Southampton Yacht Club. The marina
plays host to many major yachting events and the deep
water berthing makes it especially attractive to very large
yachts. Its position in the shelter of Southampton Water
provides extensive and varied boating opportunities.

In order to comply with DEFRA

European Union (excluding the
Channel Islands and the Isle of
Man), must ensure that any galley
waste is separately sealed in leak

should not be placed in general
refuse containers but handed to
marina staff for correct disposal.

For your own safety we strongly
recommend that all nonswimmers and children wear a life
jacket at all times whilst on the

and Safety conscious. It is vital
that you adhere to the
instructions given by the MDL
staff as they are specifically
trained in this field. If you have
