Lao-Indian transmission line project inaugurated
(KPL) Lao President Choummaly Sayasone and Her Excellency Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Honourable
President of the Republic of India, last Friday officially inaugurated the 115 KV Paksong-JiangxaiBangyo Transmission Line Project in the southernmost province of Champassak. The inauguration of
the 115 KV Paksong-Jiangxai-Bangyo transmission line projects was held in a ceremony at the
Presidential Palace in Vientiane through a video conference. The project is funded by the Indian
government as a line of credit and constructed by the Angelique International Limited of India.
This is to reinforce the energy sector as a part of the ongoing infrastructural development programmer of
the Lao government.
The Indian government provided soft loans of US$33 million as a line of credit through the Exim Bank
of India. The loan has been utilised by the Electricite du Laos as the implementing agency. The loans
were spent on three projects including the 53-km long 115 KV Paksong-Jiangxai-Bangyo Double
Circuit Transmission line, valued at US$18 million, the Nam Song Hydro Power Project, valued at
US$11 million, and the Rural Electrification Project, valued at US$4 million.
Between 2009 and 2010, the contractor Angelique International Limited has completed the 115 KV
Paksong-Jiangxai-Bangyo transmission line project and the stations from Paksong to Bangyo in
Champassak province.
The governments of the Lao PDR and the Republic of India also signed an agreement on the Cultural
Exchange Programme for 2010-2013.
An agreement was signed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to the Lao PDR,
Dr. Jitendra Nath Misra and Deputy Minister of Information and Culture of Laos, Mr. Bouangeun
Saphouvong.
