Mr. Winders Algebra 2 (ALG335) 7th Hour Week of 11/28 – 12/2/11 Objectives Activities Assessments Homework Resources/ Materials Standards/ WorkKeys Monday Section 4.3 I can graph quadratic equations by factoring. (y=x2+bx+c) I can graph quadratic functions that are in special patterns such as the difference of perfect squares and perfect square trinomials. Skills will be assessed informally by observing students. The assignment will be checked for accuracy and for completeness. The exit pass will be graded for completion and accuracy. Students will be assessed formally on these skills on Friday, December 9. Page 255 #1,2, 3-‐63 every third problem. Read and take note on Section 4.4. Textbook Pencil Completed -‐ Cornell Notes Completed HW Strand 24-‐27 XEI503 Identify solutions to simple quadratic equations. XEI505 Factor Simple quadratics (e.g., the difference of squares and perfect square trinomials). Tuesday Section 4.4 I can use factoring to solve a quadratic equation of the form f(x)=ax2+bx+c. Warm-‐up-‐ Students will use the FOIL method to multiply two binomials. Instructor will model how to solve a function in the form of y=x2+bx+c . Students will then be guided through the process of a second problem. A third problem will be done individually and the answer will be shared with a partner. Students will begin working on assignment individually. A problem will be picked by for an exit pass. Warm-‐up: Students will complete a KWL Chart for factoring to solve a quadratic equation. Students will review their HW in small groups. Instructor will model how to solve a problem when there is a coefficient with the x2 term of a quadratic equation. Student skills of using factoring to solve a quadratic equation with and without a coefficient in front of the x2 term will be assessed informally by reviewing the assignments and by an exit pass . Students skills will be evaluated formally on December 9. Page 263 1,2, 3-‐61 every third problem. Read and take notes on Section 4.5. Wednesday Section 4.5 I can solve quadratic functions by finding the square roots. Thursday I can use factoring skills and the skills of finding square roots to solve applied problems. Warm-‐up: Students will complete and turn in a HW Quiz for sections 4.3 and 4.4 . Students will discuss notes from Section 4.5 and will complete the two-‐column note guide provided in class. Students will begin working on the assignment in class. Exit pass is to turn in problems 1, 2, 4, 10, 24 The skill of solving quadratic functions using factoring will be assessed with the homework quiz in today’s warm-‐up. The notes will be checked for completion. Student’s homework will be assessed informally for completion and accuracy. Student’s skills of using radicals to solve quadratic functions will be assessed informally by the exit passes and homework. Warm-‐up. Students electing to retake this assessment will have the class period to complete the assessment. Students not electing to take this assessment will be provided with a review worksheet to complete that relates to Sections 4.3-‐4.5. Students will be provided with an opportunity to retake their 3.1-‐3.4 assessment. The higher of the two scores will be recorded in the grade book. Read and take notes for Section 4.6.
