ORGANISATIONALCONTEXT
The Certification Directorate of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is responsible for the application of
Article 5 (Airworthiness), Article 6 (Essential requirements for environmental protection), Article 20 (Airworthiness
and environmental certification) and Article 21 (Pilot certification) of the Regulation (EC) No 216/2008 of the
European Parliament and of the Council and as amended by Regulation (EC) No 1108/2009.
The Experts Department within the Certification Directorate assists Project Certification Managers in dealing with
the day-to-day regulatory activities for airworthiness approvals complemented by activities such as the evaluation of
minimum syllabus for pilot training, approval of master minimum equipment list (MMEL), and qualification of flight
simulation training devices (FSTD).
Within certification projects, the Structures Section is responsible for verifying the compliance demonstrations
provided by the applicants for an approval with the applicable airworthiness and operational requirements in the
domain of aircraft and rotorcraft structures.

JOB CONTENT
The job holder will report directly to the Structures Section Manager of the Experts Department of the Certification
Directorate and assist Project Certification Managers (PCMs) and Certification Teams in dealing with the day-to-day
regulatory activities for projects being conducted by the Agency.
He/she will in particular be responsible for:







Verifying the demonstrations provided by applicants for compliance with applicable airworthiness and
operational requirements in the domain of structures, under the coordination of the Project Certification Manager
and in cooperation with experts of other disciplines. This will include working on projects ranging from large
aircraft, to general aviation and rotorcraft;
Contributing to the approval of new aircraft Type Certificates (TCs), Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs),
repairs, changes, and service instructions;
Ensuring that required Structures standards are maintained post-Type Certification by assessing relevant
information, including service experience, and by taking appropriate follow up action where necessary;
Participating in the development of interpretations of existing requirements to cover issues such as new
technologies, novel applications of technologies and novel proposals for compliance showing;
Providing advice in the development of new airworthiness requirements, including relevant parts of EASA
Certification Specifications and operational rules, such as advisory and guidance material, in cooperation with
the EASA Rulemaking Directorate;
Acting as a source of advice for EASA’s assessment of approved design organisations, and accreditation and
standardisation oversight of EU National Airworthiness Authorities (NAAs);
Acting as a source of assistance and advice outside the Agency (i.e. to industry, academic organisations and
governments).

To be considered eligible, candidates must satisfy all the eligibility criteria by the deadline for submitting

At least a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies attested by a diploma when
the normal period of university education is three years and, after having obtained the university degree, at
least 3 years of professional experience1;

Where justified in the interest of the service, professional training of an equivalent level, in a relevant technical
domain and, after having completed the professional training, at least the professional experience indicated in

Thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the European Communities and a satisfactory knowledge of

B. SPECIFIC COMPETENCES AND SKILLS
All eligible applications, according to the afore-mentioned criteria(part A), will be assessed and scored
against the requirements listed below. Please note that non-compliance with at least one of the
essential requirements will result in the exclusion of the candidate from the selection process.
Advantageous requirements constitute additional assets and will not result in exclusion, if not fulfilled.
The Agency will invite to the interview and test phase4 the best candidates (15) on condition that they
have achieved at least 50% of the highest possible score during the evaluation of applications.
1. Essential requirements




Education and/or training in aeronautical engineering/structures engineering or other relevant subjects
giving a similar background demonstrating the ability to work in the function;
The professional experience required under part A, must have been acquired with a minimum of 1 year in a
similar environment to that of the activities outlined in the job description or in positions related to the
activities contained in the job description;
Knowledge of technical and safety requirements relevant to airborne structure systems as shown by training
or experience;
Good command of both written and spoken English;
2. Advantageous requirements







Professional experience in the field of airborne structures certification including testing, gained in the
industry or when working for a National Aviation Authority (NAA);
Good understanding of Certification Specifications and related material in the field of aircraft certification
(large aeroplane and/or general aviation aeroplane, and/or rotorcraft) as shown by training or professional
experience;
Auditing experience;
Experience in airborne structures design;
Detailed knowledge of at least one technical domain within structures, such as: flight and ground loads,
aeroelastics, materials and processes, impact analysis, static strength, fatigue and damage tolerance or
crashworthiness.
Good understanding of the international framework for civil aviation safety regulations, as proven by
professional experiences and/or training;
Ability to use office automation equipment and contemporary standard computer software including the
ability to use the following IT tools/software: MS-Office;
