The NEC/CEC standard, as it relates to hazardous locations, used primarily in the US and Canada, employ Class, Division and Group classifications. Divisions are defined by the likelihood ignitable concentrations are present. The IEC standards, mandatory across Europe and adopted in other parts of the world, classify hazardous locations into Zones. Zones, unlike Divisions, are defined by the likelihood and length of time in which sufficient quantities of the hazardous content are present. Steps for classifying hazardous materials per IEC/CENELEC codes Steps for classifying hazardous materials per NEC/CEC codes Note: Zones 20, 21 and 22 do not include metal dust Examples of Class II: Group E: Metal dust – aluminum, magnesium & commercial alloys. Group F: Carbonaceous dust – coal, carbon black, charcoal, and coke dust. Group G: Grain dust – flour, grain, wood, plastic, and chemicals. T-Codes Each liquid, gas, vapor and dust will have a specific ignition temperature. To ensure the proper use of luminaires and equipment both the NEC and IEC use temperature ratings or “T Codes.” T Codes shall not exceed ignition temperature of the specific hazards encountered in the environment. The Ignition Temperature of a solid, liquid, or gaseous substance is the minimum temperature required to initiate or cause selfsustained combustion independent of heating or heated element. T Code Max. Surface Temp T Code Max. Petro chemical plants Safety issues facing the petro-chemical industry are many and complex. Petrochemical facilities which are highly volatile environments spread out over large areas, demand a lighting solution that can operate safely while providing superior performance, efficiency and visibility. Holophane offers a wide range of hazardous rated luminaires to meet the challenging needs of this industry. Pulp and paper facilities Flour and feed mills The primary concern of the pulp and paper industry is the use of chlorine based materials and their by-products used in the processes. In this everchanging industry it is imperative to provide luminaires that are manufactured with superior materials and long life in mind. Holophane’s luminaires feature a corrosion resistant finish to endure the harshest of environments. The luminaire optical assemblies, made of Endural® borosilicate glass, do not degrade over time, and provide excellent thermal shock resistance in all environments. Storage and handling of agricultural products such as grain and flour require products that are designed to be dustignition proof. The luminaires must exclude dust from the inside of the enclosure while continuing to function at full rating. The Petrolux and Vantage family of products are both engineered to operate in these conditions. HOLOPHANE® | DEMANDING ENVIRONMENTS | Petrolux III Series 7 HOLOPHANE® Robust Housing Hinged ballast housing with integral ballast is made of heavy duty lowcopper aluminum to protect against corrosive environments Stainless Steel Hardware Stainless to stainless securement prevents potential reactions Hollow Core Silicone Gasket prevents any permanent distortion assuring integrity of the ballast housing and optical chamber Captive Optic & Guard No need to remove the guard to service the luminaire. External Capacitor Module This innovation reduces operating costs by extending the capacitor life up to 5 times. Tool-less Relamping with threaded optic for easy relamping ISD SuperGlass ISD SuperGlass provides high efficiency coupled with great uniformity, resulting in the best performance in the industry. Medium Standard product ECM option External Capacitor Module (ECM) Experience in collaboration with unique and innovative solutions has lead to yet another industry first, the External Capacitor Module. The most life limiting electrical component is the capacitor, whose purpose is to fire and regulate the lamp. For hazardous applications, Holophane uses oil filled AC film capacitors for its additional protection and thermal properties. When the ECM is specified, the capacitor is remotely mounted outside the electrical housing allowing it to run cooler. This innovation reduces operating costs by extending the capacitor life up to 4 times as long as the standard configuration. When ordered, the electrical assembly will carry an unprecedented 8 year warranty by Holophane. HOLOPHANE® | DEMANDING ENVIRONMENTS | Petrolux III Series 9 HOLOPHANE® Utility Introducing the... Ceiling mount Simplicity The installation process is greatly reduced by providing one configuration, eliminating the need to have a complex fixture schedule. This unique feature also eliminates re-work and re-orders when the mix of configurations is not accurate on the job site. Pendant mount 10 HOLOPHANE® | DEMANDING ENVIRONMENTS | Petrolux III Series | INDOOR LIGHTING Universal Mount™ Maximum Flexibility Holophane improves upon the tradition of providing the lowest total cost of ownership. The Universal Mount, a single mount option that allows for pendant, wall, stanchion, or ceiling mount offers the ultimate in flexibility over the life of the luminaire Stanchion mount Saves Time and Reduces Inventory Carrying the universal mount configuration reduces inventory store room costs Wall mount HOLOPHANE® | DEMANDING ENVIRONMENTS | Petrolux III Series 11 HOLOPHANE® Technology Optics Where applicable, Holophane utilizes high quality borosilicate glass luminaires.
