Our products are designed to the latest lighting industry standards and manufactured to the highest levels of quality. We believe that ownership of lighting extends beyond the initial purchase of the products themselves. We, therefore, offer customers a wide range of support services to ensure that their lighting installations not only meet basic operational and safety requirements on day one, but will continue to do so throughout their lifetime. From training and support on how to select products for a specific application through to the provision of routine on-site testing and maintenance, you can be sure that Eaton is ready to support you, whatever your need. In March 2011, BAFE (British Approvals for Fire Equipment) extended the scope of its SP203 accreditation scheme to cover the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of emergency lighting equipment. Eaton was the first emergency lighting manufacturer to gain accreditation to the new SP203-4 scheme and our service team is fully trained to inspect, test and maintain emergency lighting to the latest standards. So, from a one-off visit to identify any deficiencies with your system, to a routine program of testing and maintenance, you can rest assured that your emergency lighting system won’t let you down. Emergency lighting schemes give rise to some very specific needs and place a significant burden on the designated ‘responsible person’ of a building. Ensuring that the scheme complies with the latest standards and is tested and maintained regularly is a legal requirement. Failure to do so can lead to unlimited fines and even imprisonment. This brochure explains the range of services we offer and how you can access them. Some of the services are provided free of charge, while others will be included as part of an overall quotation to supply the equipment. Where we do charge for services, our rates are extremely competitive and we are happy to discuss with you in advance what the costs will be. Each seminar lasts one hour and can be held at customers’ premises during lunchtime breaks to reduce the impact on working time. LED Lighting RIBA approved CPD seminar LED is fast becoming the light source of the future, so the LED Lighting CPD seminar helps clients understand the basics of the technology, the advantages and disadvantages of LED, what to look for, how to specify LED products, and how to design with LEDs. The seminar is aimed at architects and consultants wanting to understand the different types of LEDs and how best to use them. Emergency Lighting CIBSE approved CPD seminar The Emergency Lighting CPD seminar gives an overview of the requirements of BS5266, how to design an emergency lighting scheme, requirements for exit signs, data authentication and the importance of quality. We compare alternative types of emergency lighting and the use of automatic testing. The seminar is relevant to anyone designing emergency lighting installations. Central Battery Systems CIBSE approved CPD seminar The Central Battery Systems seminar gives an insight into the design, application, standards, regulations and preferred code of practice relating to central battery systems and the testing/ maintenance requirements covered by the Fire Safety Order. The presentation is aimed at consultants and engineers looking to develop an understanding of central battery systems with a view to becoming a product specialist. De-energising the Office CIBSE approved CPD seminar The De-energising the Office CPD seminar explores where office lighting design has come from, and where it is heading as we look towards the future – discussing the latest technologies, and the thinking behind modern office lighting design. The seminar also takes a look at the most recent legislation, EN12464, and how it can be used to produce compliant and energy reducing designs. 4 Services and maintenance CC2814 - September 2015 Services and maintenance Training Operation and Maintenance Training While our central battery systems and addressable testing systems for emergency lighting are designed to be as straightforward as possible, many users find it beneficial to undergo some initial structured training on the correct operation and maintenance of the systems. This can take place either at your premises or at our Doncaster training facility. Through presentations, hand-outs and hands-on experience, we provide you with a complete overview of the system, an introduction to its operation and functionality, guidance on the use of fault-diagnosis charts, details of maintenance requirements, and an understanding of the installation requirements for any future expansion. This training will ensure that you are competent to carry out the testing and maintenance of your emergency lighting system in accordance with the latest legislation For more details, please contact our service department on 01302 303349 or LightingServiceUK@Eaton.com Service and maintenance CC2814 - September 2015 5 Services and maintenance Consultancy services A pre-installation visit will provide you with advice on the correct method of installation and give you an opportunity to ask any related questions. Pre-installation Visits For customers purchasing addressable testing systems or central battery systems, Eaton offers a pre- installation site visit to discuss the finer points of system installation and to guard against any potential pitfalls. Primarily aimed at contractors’ project managers and installation teams, these visits cover issues such as cable types, data loop configuration, addressing of devices (Easicheck 2 and CEAG), device and system operation and system limitations. 6 Services and maintenance CC2814 - September 2015 This service is included free-of-charge for customers ordering two or more panels for the same site. To discuss your requirements in detail, please contact the service department on 01302 303349. You might also want to consider our complete installation, commissioning and certification service (see page 8). Services and maintenance Consultancy services Inspection of Emergency Lighting Systems Lighting Design By law, building managers or owners have a responsibility to ensure that their emergency lighting systems are maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair. Failure to comply is taken very seriously by the courts and has already resulted in fines of up to £500,000 and jail terms of up to 20 months. Eaton has a dedicated team of lighting design engineers who are able to create mains and emergency lighting schemes to meet your requirements using the latest Relux software for 2D and 3D designs. All of our engineers hold Lighting Industry Federation qualifications and are ICEL accredited. For access to this free service, please contact your local sales engineer. The designated ‘responsible person’ also has to make sure that anyone working on the system is a competent engineer. As this is generally difficult to assess, BAFE (British Approvals for Fire Equipment) has introduced a new scheme that enables companies to receive third-party certification proving their competence in the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of emergency lighting systems. (BAFE operates a similar accreditation scheme for fire alarm companies.) Our design team can produce a legally compliant scheme using lighting levels in accordance with The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) code for interior lighting. In addition, for a more immediate response, we have an estimation tool which is used by Eaton Sales Engineers to give a very quick product specific scheme for tender purposes. The design team are able to receive files from most sources including AutoCAD files, PDF, etc. Eaton was the first emergency lighting manufacturer to gain accreditation to the new BAFE SP203-4 scheme, so when you call us out to check your emergency lighting system, you can be 100% confident that our qualified engineers know exactly what they are doing and will give you completely trustworthy advice. In addition to standard lighting schemes, Eaton can incorporate the latest in LED technology. Both standard and colour changing luminaires can be used when a dramatic effect is required. For larger projects, we can produce 3 dimensional imagery and building walk-throughs. To complete our design service, Eaton can include emergency lighting complemented by our EasiCheck addressable test system. Working from the BS 5266-10 checklist, we will provide you with a report either stating that the system complies with the regulations or identifying any deficiencies and advising on the necessary remedial action. Using a BAFE-accredited company to inspect your emergency lighting system not only ensures that you receive a competent service, but also demonstrates that you have complied with the law. For complete peace of mind, call the service department today or speak to your local sales contact to arrange an inspection of your emergency lighting system. We will also be happy to talk to you about regular testing and maintenance of your system (see page 9). Our team of fully trained and experienced service engineers can install the whole CBU system for you, including mounting and connection of batteries. A thorough inspection and comprehensive functional check is carried out as part of the commissioning process. The engineer will then certify that the system is fully operational and fit for purpose. 8 Services and maintenance CC2814 - September 2015 Services and maintenance Testing and maintenance Emergency lighting is first and foremost a life-safety system, designed to help occupants evacuate a building without injury in the event of a mains power failure. It must, therefore, be maintained in a peak state of readiness. If the emergency lighting fails to function properly, then lives could be put at risk, and organisations and responsible individuals can be prosecuted. The test regime of BS 5266 requires a monthly operational test of the emergency lighting, which may be carried out by users if they are capable of doing so, plus a full-duration discharge test once a year. The annual test should be performed by a competent engineer, who must ensure that the occupants of the building remain safe both during the test and while the system recharges. To help prevent such situations arising, the Fire Safety Order places a mandatory obligation on building occupiers to carry out regular testing and inspection of emergency lighting systems in accordance with the requirements of BS 5288:8. We have a team of trained, highly skilled engineers available across the UK, and our service and maintenance agreements can be tailored to suit your individual requirements. At each scheduled maintenance visit, we will provide you with a system status report and update your service log. These records can then be used to demonstrate that your system has been tested according to BS 5288:8. We will also identify any faults with the system and provide quotations for rectification work. It is not enough to fit an emergency lighting system and then just forget about it. Eaton, therefore, offers a full preventative maintenance package for all its emergency lighting systems. The company was the first emergency lighting manufacturer to receive third-party accreditation under the new BAFE SP203-4 scheme, which provides a way for organisations to demonstrate their competence in the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of emergency lighting systems. With a Eaton service contract, your emergency lighting system will be tested and maintained by skilled engineers who know the equipment inside out. It’s hassle-free and you will have complete peace of mind that you have discharged your legal responsibilities.
