Victorian State School’s Spectacular
The choir has attended the second rehearsal for the Victorian State School’s
Spectacular at Dallas Brooks Hall. They have been working very hard with the
songs but also the actions to go with each of the songs. The video presentations
being shown at assembly and filmed and edited by Kate and Immy have been
fantastic. This is a great way to highlight and record the student’s involvement in
this wonderful event. Thank you to Kate and Chris for attending this session.
Policy Review
Last year a working group of staff and parents led by Sheenagh Callahan developed the MPW Healthy Eating Policy. The draft is to be presented to Education
Committee for ratification in September and is currently on our schools website.
If you are interested in providing any final thoughts and feedback to be considered please go to www.mooneewestps.vic.edu.au or collect a hard copy of the
policy from the front office. Please forward feedback to Helen Thomas, Assistant
Principal or Sheenagh Callahan in Room 4 by 19th July. Once this policy is ratified
it will be launched at a community event in Term 4.
3/4 Camp
The third group of 3/4 students have returned from Camp Sunnystones. The
three groups of students and staff had a wonderful time. The weather was cold
but fine and sunny for most of the days we were all there. The activities were
challenging and enjoyable. The feedback from the students on the venue, food
and sleeping arrangements has been fantastic. Thank you to the staff that attended the camps and for all the hard work preparing ahead of time. Thank you
to all the families for supporting the camping program.
Acceptable Use Booklet
A reminder that these booklets are due back. If you haven’t sent your child’s
booklet back to school could you ensure this is done by tomorrow please. If you
need another copy they are stored on our school’s website under ‘Info’ and then
‘Policies’. Included in this document is the use of student’s mobile phone. If you
would like your child to bring a mobile phone to school they need to write to
Jenny so the school is aware. We remind all parents that student mobiles are to
be turned off and put it in their bag when they come to school. Also the phone is
the student's responsibility and they can only be used outside of school hours.
Count Us In
This is an early notice of the Count Us In program for 2013. This year's song will
be performed by students from around Australia on the 31st October at 12.30.
For MPW this will take place in the school's gym. The song for 2013 is ‘Keep On’
with information available at http://www.musiccountusin.org.au/

Japan Tour
A quick update to let you know that our tour to Japan has been approved by the Department of Education
and Early Childhood Development. The Department thanked the school in particular Randal Symons and
Diana Vivian for their very detailed planning. We continue with our regular catch ups with the students. Next
term these include several sessions on a Friday between 2.30 and 3.30. If you'd like to know more about the
tour you can visit our blog at http://mpwpsjapantour.edublogs.org
Japanese Teaching Assistant Program
From the Monday 9th September till the 20th September 2013 MPW will play host to Moeko Kawasaki who is
a student from Hiroshima Bunkyo Women’s University in Hiroshima. We thank Diana Vivian for organising
what will no doubt be a successful exchange for all concerned.

MUSIC CAMP
The MVIMP Camp is coming up again at Lady Northcote Recreation Camp, from Tuesday 20th to Friday
23rd August, 2013.
JSC PJ DAY
JSC PJ day is on this Thursday 27th June. Please
come dressed in your PJ’s and bring along a gold
coin donation for the Melbourne City Mission.
CHOCOLATE DRIVE 2013
Around 60 children will be invited from the four
MVIMP schools (15 from each school) across a range
of instruments. While we wish we could take every
child who wants to participate, the selection is limited due to numbers and the range of instruments
required, and we hope children and their families
will understand the difficulty of this.
In early Term 3 your eldest child will bring
home a fundraising carry pack of Cadbury
chocolate selections.
Children are recommended by their instrumental
tutor, based on their attendance, effort, evidence of
practise and progress etc. They also need to have
the stamina required to manage the rehearsals at
camp. Many children will obviously meet these criteria!
The chocolate drive is a terrific fundraiser for
our school, and we hope to make more than
$8000 profit.
Invitations are then finalised at a meeting of the Music Liaison Teachers to ensure a balance of instruments across the schools, amongst other factors
such as attitude and experience. We try to provide
one opportunity for each child who is ready and able
to attend MVIMP camp during their time in the program, though this is not always possible and should
not be relied on.
We would love you to sell these chocolates to
friends, neighbours and workmates.
If you do not wish to participate in this
fundraiser, please let the office know by the
end of Term 2 (Friday 28th June).
More details about the chocolate drive will be
provided in Term 3.
Thanks for your support.
Invitations have been finalised and replies
need to be returned this week. More information will follow for those who accept the
invitation.
MVIMP REPORTS
This year, MVIMP reports will be sent home with
your child’s Learning Portfolio and written report.
This means you will receive them early next term.
Schoolkids Bonus
If school expenses are weighing you down, the Schoolkids Bonus can help lighten the load. It replaces the
old Education Tax Refund and it is simple: there’s no need to collect receipts and you don’t claim it through
your tax. If you’re eligible it will be paid straight into your bank account twice each year so you have the
money when you need it most. Each year you will receive up to:
$410 a year for each primary student ($205 paid in January and $205 paid in July)
$820 a year for each secondary student ($410 paid in January and $410 paid in July).
Important news!
The second instalment of the Schoolkids Bonus for 2013 will be paid by Centrelink from 4 to 17 July. If you
haven't received your payment by 18 July, but think you're eligible, please contact Centrelink to discuss
your personal circumstances.
If you receive Family Tax Benefit as a lump sum the Schoolkids Bonus will be paid after your Family Tax
Benefit claim is assessed. australia.gov.au/schoolkidsbonus.

TRIVIA NIGHT
Thank you to everyone who supported or attended our Trivia Night. We raised about $12,500 for our
school – a fantastic effort. Below is a list of all the sponsors who donated goods, services or table sponsorship for the evening. It was only through the generous support of these businesses and our school
community we were able to hold such a successful night. Please support the businesses that support
