We have 24 families who live out of the school zone wanting to enrol their
children at Coromandel Valley as Reception students in 2017. Blackwood and
Coromandel Valley Kindergartens have asked families who live in the zone to
enrol and have provided us with a list of students they believe will attend
Coromandel Valley. If you know of a family in the zone with a 2017 reception
student please mention the need for enrolments to be submitted.
We have given an undertaking to families out of the zone that we will let
them know at the earliest the last week of term Friday 30th September and
the latest Friday 21st of October the first week of term 4. Families with
children in other year levels who are considering moving their children to
Coromandel Valley are asked to contact the office to determine if we will
have any vacancies. Similarly if you are moving or possibly moving to another
school please advise the office or your child’s class teacher.
PEDAL PRIX
Twenty two year 6 & 7 students have now been training 2 to3 times a week
for 7 weeks in preparation for the first 6 hour race on the 19 June at the old
Victoria Park race track where the Clipsal 500 race is held. This year will see a
change in the format with the adult riders competing on Saturday 18 June.
This will be a spectacular event with riders getting up to 65 kilometres per
hour down the straight. On the Sunday all the High Schools and Primary
schools, with over 150 cars, will compete from 10.15 am until 4.15pm.
Coromandel Valley will have 2 cars racing in the two races at Victoria Park 19
June and 31 July and one at Murray Bridge the 24 hour race 24 and 25
September.
We expect our pit area to be on the northern side of the old grand stand. If
your child is thinking about joining the programme in 2017 this is a great
opportunity for them to get a sense of the race day experience. The attached
link will take you to a YouTube clip filmed inside a car ridden by an adult in
the Victoria Park race in which adults and schools competed at the same time
so there were over 180 cars on the track. We have the riders watch this to
establish the line they should be taking coming in and out of corners and
when to pedal and when to brake. It offers a fantastic insight into what our
students experience on the day.

GIRLS KNOCKOUT NETBALL
With 29 girls trialling for a 9 girl squad, the selectors had their job cut out! Seven year seven girls were selected: Zoe
(captain), Amy, Niamh, Kaia, Kelsey, Cyan and Brianna. Two year six girls made up the eighth and ninth spots on the squad:
Maddie and Ella. Already very strong individual netballers, it has been great to see the girls train and work together as a
cohesive and supportive team.
Our first game was against Flagstaff Hill. The Coro girls
warmed up as a team and looked very professional. The girls
quickly had four unanswered goals with great movement and
accuracy from Amy and Kaia in the goal ring. In defence, Zoe
and Kelsey didn’t give their players an inch and were quick to
intercept almost every pass into the goal ring. Cyan, Brianna
and Niamh moved the ball from the defensive to attacking
end through the mid court with style and by quarter time,
the Coro girls had well and truly asserted themselves on
court.
At half time, Maddie and Ella came on in GK and C and the
quality play continued. The difference in score continued to
widen with the addition of Zoe in goals. During the last half,
Craigburn did not score due to the consistently defensive
play of every Coro player on court.
With a final score of 43-4, the Coro girls showed their
amazing depth and proved they are a force to be reckoned
with. The girls move into the next round – stay tuned for
future updates!

We have four families who are willing to host a student for in term 3 however, we need four more families. This is to be
a group of eight and the Korean Co-ordinator would like the students to all be at the same school. As a host family you
will be paid a weekly fee to reimburse your costs. If you can help us or would like some more information would you let
me know by email as soon as possible.

BOYS KNOCKOUT NETBALL
Last week, we entered our first boys netball team into the knockout
competition. A squad of 9 year seven boys were chosen and were
all very keen to practice and learn new skills during our training
sessions. The boys played their first game against Craigburn Primary
School who took out last year’s competition. It was a fast and tough
game and the level of skill from both teams was extremely
impressive.
Our defenders Brendan, Jaxon and Charlie N, gave the Craigburn
shooters little space to work with. Jaxon just didn’t give up, read the
play superbly and intercepted several passes. Brendan blocked his
player well and though his player was an excellent shot, Brendan
managed several rebounds for Coro. Charlie N did not leave his
player’s side, was fast through the mid court and communicated
well.
Our mid-courters Dylan, Aiden and Tom played with speed and
ferocity. Our captain, Dylan, led by example and fought hard to
intercept passes and snagged many loose balls. Aiden judged his
surroundings well and created space through the mid court and made strong leads when the opportunity arose. Tom also
read play well and passed beautifully into the goalies.
It was a pleasure to see Josh, Ben and Charlie A in action in the goal ring. Ben’s fast footwork and clever passes meant he
could get in front of his player well. Josh played the role of a defensive goalie well by defending his space and developed an
excellent ‘split’. Charlie A provided speed and patience within the ring. All three boys shot exceptionally well and it was
impressive to see how well they worked together and communicated.
It was a very close game throughout but going into the last quarter, Coro were down by 6 goals. The boys gave absolutely
everything they had and supported each other so well as a team to get back within two goals. Unfortunately for us, Craigburn
were very strong and knocked us out of the competition with a final score of 35-30.
Overall, I was very, very impressed with the boys’ efforts – they fought hard all game and displayed excellent
sportsmanship. I hope that in the future the boys will be able to continue playing netball in some form or another!

LACROSSE
Towards the end of last term, Coro competed in the SAPSASA Lacrosse Carnival at Sturt Lacrosse Club. The carnival was
bigger than ever this year with approximately 80 teams and 560 players present! There were 4 divisions – 4/5 girls, 6/7
girls, 4/5 boys and 6/7 boys – and each division had around 20 teams in it. We took 5 teams of 7 players and had a team
in each of the four divisions. All of the teams played very well and did our school proud.

Year 5 boys, who finished 3rd, won all 5 of their games and amazingly, didn’t even concede a goal for the entire day!
Year 7 boys won all 5 of their games and finished 3rd.
Year 6/7 girls won 4 out of 5 games and finished 3rd.
Year 5 girls won all 4 of their games.
Year 6 boys won 3 out of 4 games.
So, as a school, we won 21 out of 23 games – a great effort! More importantly, all of our students had a great time
playing sport and being active. Parents, grandparents and teachers also enjoyed supporting the children. A big thanks to
the parents and teachers who helped coach teams: Mrs Versteeg, Mrs Brusic, Mrs Zervaas, Ms Koch and Ms Mueller.

CROSS COUNTRY
Well done to all of the Cross Country runners who competed at the District Carnival at Belair National Park.

13 year olds:
Indi P, Lachie E, Adam Z, Harrison V, Senne V, Sam W, Reeve H
Sena T, Jye L, Aiden M, Cael G
Will T, Sidi K
Zoe V, Sophie R, Niamh H, Isabella L, Charlie A
At this carnival students run a challenging 3km course (2km
for the 10 year olds) up and down hills, through the trees
and over grass, mud, dirt trails and one fallen tree.
Fortunately our team has been training hard at the Frank
Smith Reserve for the past couple of months and were well
prepared for the challenge.
Special congratulations go to the following students
who placed highly in their age group and have now been
invited to run at the State Championship event at
Oakbank Race Course next month:
Indi P, 2nd; Sena T, 3rd; Zoe V, 3rd; Jye L, 5th
All of our runners showed great effort and should be
proud of their achievements. It was also very pleasing to
see the commitment of those students, who chose to compete on their day off.
A big “thankyou” to parents for transporting the children to the event, and to Sharon and Ross for assisting with
marshalling at the finish line.
DID YOU KNOW THAT SATURDAY 28 MAY WAS THE NATIONAL DAY OF THANKS?
SOME THINGS FOR WHICH TO BE THANKFUL…..
• If you have food in your refrigerator, clothes to wear, a roof over your head and a place to sleep, you are richer
than 70% who live in this world.
• If you can go to your place of worship without being threatened, tortured, arrested or killed, you are luckier than
3,000,000,000 people in this world.
• If you have money in your bank account, wallet and some loose change in some little box somewhere then you are
one of the world’s 8% well to do population.
• If you are able to read this message, you have just received another blessing.... you are not one of the
2,000,000,000 people who are illiterate.
One of the things I am thankful for is the opportunity to be here at Coromandel Valley PS as the Pastoral Care
Worker. Over my short time here I have been on camps and excursions, and have been enjoying getting to know the
school community. On Friday lunch times I am running LEGO and colouring club and have been very impressed with
the LEGO creations so far! I am in the school on Tuesdays and Fridays. You can drop me a note in my letterbox in the
front office or outside my room in the Dobell Unit (near the Reception classrooms) or feel free to email me at

CAR PARKING
A reminder to parents to be mindful of congestion within the car parking and entrance areas at the front of the school.
Parents are encouraged to utilise the ‘kiss and drop’ option and if it is necessary to park, there is car parking available in
the church next to the school. Parking a short distance from the school and walking in is a healthy alternative and sets a
good example to the students. Please be aware that parking in the House area is for staff only.
