MERCED COLLEGE ANNOUNCES 51st COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES
Merced College will award more than 1,100 degrees and certificates to
students graduating during the current 2013-2014 academic year. Many of
these graduates will walk across the stage to receive their awards during
Merced College’s 51th Commencement Exercises on Friday, May 23 at 7:30
p.m. in Stadium ‘76/Don Odishoo Field.
A total of 895 degrees and 208 certificates of achievement will be
conferred during the ceremony. Eight students will be recognized with the
Superintendent Honors for having completed at least 36 units of study with a
4.0 grade point average. In addition, 85 students are graduating with honors.
One hundred students are also graduating from the Los Banos Campus.
Merced College President Dr. Ron Taylor will introduce State Senator
Anthony Canella, representing the state’s 12th District, who will deliver his
Commencement Address titled “Tenacity.”
Leonel Farias, who is graduating with degrees in General Agriculture and
Agriculture Business, will deliver the student address. His speech is titled
“How Will Our Lives be Remembered?”
The ceremony will also feature members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor
Society announcing the Outstanding Professor of the Year Award. A special
recognition is also reserved for graduates who are veterans of the US Armed
Forces.
