Not only do PhotonStar‘s LED luminaires create
inspirational surroundings that are pleasant to live
and work in, they also offer distinct environmental
advantages. They use less energy: a 7W downlight
is the equivalent of a 60W incandescent
downlight, and a 4W LED downlight is the
equivalent of a 40W incandescent downlight. This
helps to save up to 85% in energy costs vs
conventional incandescent lamps. Over the
lifetime of a single 7W product it will save you
£265 in energy costs (at £0.10 /kWh). In addition
turning off and on PhotonStar LED products does
not shorten their lifetime so you can save even
more energy.
They create less waste: you can save 50
incandescent lamps or 8 low energy lamps by
using a single PhotonStar LED product.

PhotonStar LED luminaires have less of an environmental impact. By saving energy, fewer
greenhouse gas emissions result, enabling you
to save 1140Kg of CO2 for a single 7W LED
downlight over it‘s 50,000 hour lifetime. They
also contain no environmentally harmful materials like lead or mercury and all PhotonStar products are RoHS compliant. To complete their eco
credentials, they offer a long lifetime, lasting between 50,000-100,000 hours each. PhotonStar

The SmartController can precisely vary the luminous flux from as little as
11 lumens up to the maximum. (subject to dimming control signals).
When daylight sensing is enabled, efficacy ranges from 46 lm/circuit W to 73lm/circuit W (based on
4000K SmartNemesis), continuously adapting to provide the minimum energy consumption, resulting in lower operating costs. The controller operates at 24V DC, allowing power to be taken from renewable supplies such as PV panels, off grid battery systems

Reducing Environmental Impact and Total Lifecycle
Energy Costs Through Design Choices
Low LED junction temperatures ensures LED efficiency, long LED life, consistent colour temperature over lifetime. Typically for every 10°C increase in junction temperature over 85°C the LED
efficiency will drop by 3% , the colour temperature point will shift by 1% and the lifetime will drop
by 10k hrs. The Cool3R™ thermal management technology ensures significantly lower junction
temperatures can be accomplished in the most sustainable way to maximise product life in real
world environments and applications. Sustainable Technology
Cool3R™ is perhaps the most complete sustainability success story in lighting - developed
to reduce demand on environmental resources – both materials and energy, it supports the philosophy of Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. Key to the design of ultra long life luminaires and combined
with the 3R philosophy, the Cool3R™ technology results in the ultimate solid state lighting thermal
management solution, contributing to a more sustainable built environment.
Reduce: Reduction of waste and consumption of resources is at the top of the 3R hierarchy. Cool3R™ utilises 100% recycled material (that save 95% of the energy required to
make virgin aluminium) and is a key component to luminaires that have a lifetime more
than 20 times that of disposable lighting technology. Modular design minimises unnecessary waste by-products in manufacture.
Reuse: Passive heatsinking as part of a modular luminaire design provides for simple refurbishment/upgrade at LED end of life, reusing the heatsink without energy required
for recycling into raw materials.

Lowest Embedded CO2
Cool3R™ technology and a low carbon design philosophy results in PhotonStar LED luminaires
achieving >90% lower embedded CO2 than any other lighting solution including LED lamps, CFL

High Performance Design
The heatsinks are cast with integral heat spreader and high capacity thermal pathways to ensure
LED junction temperatures are minimised during start up and sustained operation. The open fin
design promotes consistent convective cooling in any orientation. Engineered as a single die cast
to keep LEDs cool by minimising thermal interfaces. Passive technology requires no additional
power. Proprietary surface treatments and finish improves performance by 30% over regular die

An intelligent High Power Low Glare fixed LED Downlight
The innovative range of High Power SmartNemesis LED downlights is set to revolutionise interior lighting with high efficiency and controlled light delivery. With integral
daylight sensing constant levels of illumination are delivered during the day irrespective of natural daylight contributions or location within the building. The microprocessor based intelligence further provides smooth dimming capabilities down to 0.5%,
soft start, seamless compatibility with multiple building control systems as well as
thermal protection for any unforeseen circumstances.

The SmartLuminaire controller can precisely vary the luminous flux from 11lm to
3000lm subject to dimming control signals. When daylight sensing is enabled the
efficiency levels range from 46lm/circuitW to 73lm/circuitW (based on 4000K) continuously adapting to provide the minimum energy consumption as well as largest
saving in electricity bills. Light levels can be adjusted using a simple remote control to
calibrate for the desired illuminance levels as well as compensate for reflected light
from surfaces within the illumination cone of the downlight. The LED light engine can
be specified in 4000K and 6500K with a Colour Rendering Index distribution between
Ra 80 and Ra 86.
The luminaire is constructed from the highest quality materials including a distinctive
die-cast Al chassis integrating a proprietary Cool3R TMLED thermal management solution. A high purity vacuum coated reflector cup complements the high efficiency whilst
providing optimised photometry enabling increased illumination uniformity with low
glare attributes (UGR 19). The luminaire components are 100% recyclable. A range of
decorative accessories complete the range.

new builds, refurbishments or retrofits. The CeilingStar5 trimless plaster-in
downlight is an energy efficient and zero maintenance light fitting which is a superior
replacement for MR16 and GU10 ceiling downlights or incandescent downlights.
These light fittings make changing lamps a thing of the past.
The plaster-in approach allows seamless integration of the lighting and the fabric of
the building. Once the custom powder coat metal frame is plastered-in the CS5
trimless light engine is inserted into the frame, locking securely into place. With a
projected life of 80,000 hours it is unlikely that the unit will need maintenance however if access to the ceiling cavity is required it is a simple matter unlocking the CS5
from the plastered-in frame for access.
The CS5 trimless offers equivalent illumination to 35W and 50W GU10 halogens

efficient and zero maintenance light fittings are a superior replacement for ceiling
Lights such as halogens and fluorescents. It conforms to EU ‗A‘ energy rating and UK
Building Regulations Part L and contains an integral power supply unit allowing direct
connection to the mains. With a total fitting wall plug efficiency of 59-76 lumens per
Circuit Watt this product is fully Part L compliant as a dedicated low energy fitting.
Versions of the product are dimmable.
The CeilingStar30 is constructed of materials that are designed for longevity such as
an anodized aluminum body. The CS30-22W version of the Luminaire produces the
equivalent light output to 150W halogen or 2x18W fluorescent whilst only consuming
just 22W.
The unit is IP20 and is suitable for indoor applications such as hallways, corridors and
