Autopsy Saw and Accessories.
Clean-Cut Autopsy Saw and Extraction System and Accessories
The Clean Cut Autopsy Saw and Extractor system has a range of safety features designed specifically for autopsy work. The
unit includes a water proof, completely enclosed saw handpiece that is fully immersible, allowing it to be routinely scrubbed
and thoroughly disinfected after use. It also features a slim, extended nose for improved cutting in confined areas. The
oscillation speed can be varied from zero to maximum for optimum cutting efficiency. The lighter weight of this instrument
assists in minimizing user fatigue. A diverse range of replacement blades and accessories are available.
The Clean Cut Extractor features an overhead power unit which allows the drum section to be completely separated for
thorough washing and cleaning. Once the saw is turned off, the extractor will run for a further five seconds to purge the
system of debris. The Clean Cut Autopsy Saw and Extractor system, which includes a H.E.P.A. (High Efficiency Particulate
Absolute) filter, operates to the highest standards of pathogenic debris, such as bone dust containment and filtration. This
device is situated on castors to allow for easy mobility. A one year manufacturer's limited warranty is included.

Feather ® Autopsy, Trimming and Dissection Range
The Feather ® Autopsy, Trimming and Dissection range is internationally renowned for its sharpness and versatility. The
Autopsy Handle is autoclavable, easy to clean and highly chemically resistant. The handle is reusable with a variety of
interchangeable disposable stainless steel Autopsy Blades. There are also a number of reusable Trimming Handles that can
be used with the disposable Trimming Blades and these are available in right and left-handed versions. The F-80 Trimming
Handle can be used with Feather ® Disposable Microtome Blades, converting these ultra-sharp high quality blades to
trimming tools. The Dissecting Handle, made from a special hard resin, is also autoclavable and can hold two types of longlife ultra-sharp disposable Dissecting Blades.
The newly developed Feather ® Safety Trimming System combines the well respected Feather ® Trimming Blades, with a
new blade exchange system, which enables a simple, safe and fast change of blade. The blades are single packed with a
blade cover and therefore a direct contact with the Trimming Blade can be avoided. This protects the user from injury and
infections. The ergonomically designed plastic handle is heat resistent, autoclavable and easy to clean.
The #22 Feather ® brand scalpel blades are stainless steel, which provide a durable, precision edge. They are packaged
individually and are sterile to maximize their applications. Designed to be used with a #4 Stainless Steel contoured handle
which accentuates proper feel and dexterity.
These blades are also available packaged with disposable, plastic handles. This is an excellent choice where isolation and
disposal of the instrument is required to eliminate cross contamination.
Scalpel Blade #11 is available for microspecimen and dermopathology applications or where a smaller precision blade is
preferred.

Scalpels and Handles
Scalpels such as the Round Tip Scalpel Blade are specially designed to reduce the real dangers associated with puncture
wounds from sharp pointed blade ends. With the Round Tip Scalpel Blade, it is virtually impossible to inflict a puncture
wound. When used together with Cut Resistant or Safetyflex Gloves, staff will be significantly more protected when carrying
out cut-up or dissection procedures. For added security, the Scalpel Blade Remover enables scalpel blades to be taken off
the blade handles safely and securely.
The #22 Feather ® brand scalpel blades are stainless steel, which provide a durable, precision edge. They are packaged
individually and are sterile to maximize their applications.
These blades are also available packaged with disposable, plastic handles. This is an excellent choice where isolation and

Forceps.
All instruments are made from premium grade, hardened stainless steel and feature a protective coating to provide extra durability and
protection against rust and corrosion. Each instrument is satin-matt finished to reduce eye-fatiguing glare.
Ergonomic Forceps.
All of our ergonomic designs were manufactured with the operator in mind. Each style forcep is machine drilled to minimize weight
while still maintaining the balance and feel of the instrument. The anti-slip paddle handle assists in decreasing the tension required to
engage the gripping motion, as well as creating passivity for the specimen. These elements promote the reduction of operator fatigue
associated in repetitive motion applications such as grossing, embedding and microtomy techniques. Most of the ergonomic designs
will fit properly in the heated ports of the majority of embedding stations available on the market.
5½" (140 mm) Ergonomic
Available in smooth, serrated or needle tips. These (140 mm) versions are for those who prefer a shorter forcep. The

Feather Blades.
Feather Disposable Microtome Blades
The Feather Autopsy, Trimming and Dissection range is internationally renowned for its sharpness and versatility. Made
from the finest grade stainless steel, each blade is heat treated and finely ground in three stages to produce an extremely
precise cutting edge. The blades are then specially coated to minimize friction and maximize blade longevity.
A variety of blades are available, each suited to a particular application or tissue type: Feather S35 – A low profile blade for
all routine sectioning. Feather R35 – Enables easier ribboning. Ideal for hard fibrous tissue. Feather N35 – Suitable for hard
tissue and for thin sectioning. Feather A35 – For routine sectioning of soft and hard tissue. Also suited for thinner sections.
Feather S22 – For cutting soft tissue and obtaining extremely thin sections. Ideal for skin, lymph node and renal biopsies.
Feather S35L – A longer 120 mm version of the Feather S35 to facilitate the cutting of larger blocks normally on a sledge or
sliding microtome. Feather S35LL – A longer 180 mm version of the Feather S35 to facilitate the cutting of very large blocks. A
sliding microtome is required to use this blade. Feather C35 – A disposable carbon steel blade ideally suited for sectioning in
a cryostat. Able to shear very thin frozen sections. Feather S35 High Profile – Twice the depth of the Feather S35 (requiring
a specific High Profile blade holder). Suitable for all routine sectioning.
With the exception of the C35 Blade, it is recommended to trim in all Feather microtome blades to improve blade longevity.
During trimming-in of the blade, care must be taken not to damage the surface coating, as this can cause scoring. Available
in packs of 50.

Manufactured from solvent resistant nylon, these Mesh Biopsy Bags are ideal for use in processing small biopsies. They
provide excellent fluid exchange and maximum tissue safety. The fixative and specimen can be poured into the bag which
then filters the fixative and leaves the biopsies inside. The bag is then closed, placed inside a Biopsy Cassette and processed
as normal. After processing, the bag can be extracted and opened, allowing the specimen to be recovered and embedded
in paraffin wax.

Biopsy Pads
Biopsy Pads are made from open-celled foam, which allows fluids to transfer safely and thoroughly around tissue while
holding the specimen securely. To prevent floating and avoid artifacts, Biopsy Pads should be presaturated in fixative. The
thin design helps eliminate excess pressure from being applied to unfixed specimens, reducing the risk of tissue sticking to
the pads or fibers coming apart during embedding. Available in white or blue foam, circular or rectangular. The thinner pads
also allow for less fluid carry-over during processing.

Paraplast ®
Paraplast ® is recommended for general tissue embedding. It is composed of a refined mixture of highly purified paraffin
containing plastic polymers of regulated molecular weights. This provides improved tissue infiltration and superior quality
sections with minimal compression. Paraplast gives brittle, difficult-to-section tissue an innate elasticity, producing
excellent, wrinkle-free sections. Paraplast Plus is suggested for large tissue or tissue that may normally present infiltration
issues. Paraplast Plus contains a small percentage of dimethyl sulfphoxide (DMSO), allowing accelerated tissue penetration.
Paraplast Xtra is recommended for lower temperature infiltration which aids in the prevention of tissue distortion. It is
composed of a unique blend of low molecular weight polymers and highly purified paraffins for exceptional compression
resistance and ribbon continuity. Low viscosity permits complete infiltration of dense tissue.

Airchek® Badges
Airchek Badges provide an innovative, simple and effective system to monitor vapour levels. Standard badges are available
for formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde and xylene. The Airchek badges provide continuous sampling for personal monitoring and
can give the measurements required under Government regulations. The badges are simply clipped on to the technician’s
clothing and a record is kept of name, location and time. One badge will provide continuous sampling over 8 hours and a
second badge can be used to supply information to analyse a 15-minute period during peak exposure. Both badges are then
sent to Leica Microsystems to be forwarded to an independent accredited laboratory for analysis. The analysis is performed
using HPLC giving a formaldehyde sensitivity of 0.004 p.p.m. ± 19% at 2.00 p.p.m Once the results are determined, the
laboratory receives a report specifying the exposure per individual technician for the appropriate chemical. It also indicates
the results in a format which can be readily compared to the Workplace Exposure Limits. Badges to monitor other chemicals
are also available.

formaldehyde and takes just 10-15 minutes to convert the liquid to a solid. Vapours will be neutralised in around 7-10 minutes.
F.C.G. comes in an easy-to-hold pack containing 680 gm - enough for even large spillages. One side of the container allows
F.C.G. to be poured, the other side allows it to be sprinkled less liberally for smaller incidents. One container of F.C.G. treats
approximately 500 mL of 10% Neutral Buffered Formalin.

D-Formalizer ® Pads
D-Formalizer Pads reduce formaldehyde exposure by absorbing and neutralising any excess formalin. The durable blue
surface of the pads provides an excellent contrast to even small pieces of tissue. The Pads are also useful for soaking up
leakage and de-odourising vapours in other applications. They can be used to line shelves which hold specimen containers
that may seep formaldehyde around the lid, or to line transport boxes where leaks may occur. D-Formalizer Pads are available
in various sizes and also in a convenient roll so that lengths can be cut as required. For best results, the D-Formalizer Pad Roll
should be used with the D-Formalizer Pad Dispenser. Pads come in packs of 25 and sizes include 203 x 254 mm, 280 x 356 mm,
406 x 508 mm. D-Formalizer role is 356 x 15.5 m.

X-Tract Filtration System & Bactiguard Pre-Filter
The X-Tract Filtration System is a portable unit for removing hazardous vapours from localised sources. It will remove both
formalin and xylene vapours while its Bactiguard Pre-Filter will eliminate microbes and viruses. Laboratory technicians are
routinely exposed to a variety of harmful chemical vapours in the workplace, for instance aldehydes such as formalin and
glutaraldehyde, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), such as xylene and ethanol. It is a legal requirement that employers
ensure exposure remains below Workplace Exposure Limits.
The X-Tract Filtration System uses state-of-the-art technology to remove potentially harmful vapours. Fitted with a
powerful, variable speed fan, the unit draws contaminated air through a sealed replaceable cartridge containing material
which attracts, reacts with and removes vapour molecules. Non-hazardous by-products are released via the rear vents.
The unit is compact and suitable even for a small work area and has a convenient carrying handle so it can be easily moved
and taken to a spill site to remove harmful fumes. In such cases, it is best to place the unit next to the source and close off
all other ventilation.
The X-Tract is also useful for removing fumes from air-drying slides following mounting and coverslipping and also for
removing fumes from specimen storage rooms and reception areas. The X-Tract Filtration System has been designed to
operate safely for 24-hours per day and can be left on continuously to remove background levels of harmful vapours from
the laboratory environment. The life-span of the vapour filtration cartridge varies depending on the concentration of the
vapours to which it is exposed and the volume of the room in which it is working, but typically it should be changed every
three months. An alarm will sound when the cartridge is due to be changed. The unit runs on 12 volts DC for increased staff
safety. The Bactiguard Fre-Filter contains two compounds that, in turn, weaken the cell walls and disrupt cellular activity of
bacteria, thereby eradicating them. Bactiguard has also been shown to be very successful at eradicating the synthetic test
virus MS2 Coliphage™, which has a molecular size of 23 nm, smaller than many disease causing viruses (eg the influenza
virus ranges from 150 to 200 nm). For maximum efficiency, the Bactiguard Pre-Filter should be changed every month.

Cut Resistant Glove
The Cut Resistant Glove is manufactured from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, one of the strongest fibers made.
While handling sharp cutting instruments, the Cut Resistant Glove forms a barrier that helps protect the hand from cuts. It
is lightweight, seamless and very soft to touch. They can be worn between two latex, vinyl or nitrile gloves for maximum
protection against body fluid contamination. These gloves can be worn time after time and sterilized between uses, however
should be replaced when signs of wear appear. Available in small, medium and large in packs of 1, 2 or 5 pairs.

Nitrile Glove
The Nitrile Glove is made of 100% pure nitrile. It offers a higher level of resistance to nuisance nicks, cuts and abrasions and
offers superior splash protection against irritating chemicals when compared to natural latex or vinyl equivalents. These
gloves are just 4mls thin and provide excellent tactile sensitivity. After being worn for a short period of time, the glove
conforms to your hand size for greater comfort and reduced perspiration. This special polymer formulation of nitrile does not
allow adhesive label materials to stick to it. Thin nitrile exam gloves are three times more puncture resistant when tested
against comparative natural latex and vinyl gloves. They are 9 1⁄2” long, ambidextrous and have textured fingers for a better
grip. They come lightly powdered with cornstarch and now are also available powderless.

Powderless Nitrile Glove
Made of 100% nitrile these durable gloves offer superior puncture resistance when compared to latex and vinyl as well as
excellent tactile sensitivity, while the smaller pore size offers a superior barrier to certain chemicals. They provide an excellent
alternative to latex and, as a synthetic rubber, have none of the problems associated with allergic reactions to latex. Nitrile
conforms to the hand and therefore fits more comfortably and reduces hand fatigue and perspiration. They have a rolled cuff,
are virtually odour-free and are available in four sizes.

EasyDip Slide Staining System.
™
The EasyDip ™ Slide Staining System has two components: a square staining jar and a 12 - position vertical slide rack. Jars can be
loosely joined to each other laterally, therefore making sure they are kept in the same order when moved around on the lab counter. As
an extra benefit, they are available in 5 different colors to help better identifying contents or applications.
EasyDip ™ Slide Staining Jar
The staining jar being made of resistant acetal plastic will not break like most glass jars do. It will resist most staining agents
including alcohol and xylene (but not phenol, iodine or ferric chloride ). The wide stable base offers greater stability while
the inside is recessed, allowing for a smaller reagent volume of only 80 ml. Easy to clean and no metals to corrode. Ideal for
special stains, frozen sections and special processes. Will resist temperatures between -170 °C and +121 °C. Autoclavable.

Decalcifiers.
Decalcifier System
Decalcifier I is a unique decalcifying solution that has the ability to fix and decalcify at the same time. Needle biopsies may
be completely fixed and decalcified in one hour or less. Small bone specimens and calcified arteries may be completely
fixed and decalcified in approximately 2-4 hours. It is recommend to use 20 times the volume of the specimen. Following
decalcification, the specimen is ready for processing without first having to wash. Tissues decalcified in this solution cut
with ease and routine H&E techniques produce excellent stained sections. Larger specimens, 3 to 5 millimeters thick, can
immediately be placed in Decalcifier I to fix and initiate decalcification overnight. The following morning, if the specimen is
not yet decalcified, transfer it directly to Decalcifier II to complete demineralization that same day. The Surgipath Decalcifier
I-II combination can save valuable time and more importantly, valuable specimens.

Clearene
Clearene is a selected blend of terpenes formulated specifically to replace xylene and toluene in histology and cytology
laboratory procedures. It is less oily than other solvent substitutes and therefore dries quickly and does not leave a
residue. Clearene penetrates tissue rapidly without overhardening and is safe to use with all open and closed system tissue
processors. It is miscible with alcohols, paraffins and mounting media. It contains an antioxidant to prevent stain fading.
Clearene is biodegradable and offers the desirable characteristics of a good solvent but not the harmful drawbacks of
aromatic hydrocarbons such as xylene and toluene-based products.

FineFIX
FineFIX has been formulated as a formalin-free, water-based fixative for conventional and microwave enhanced fixation.
This alternative fixative is ideal for routine histological applications and molecular analysis.
When diluted with ethanol, its patented formulation of low toxicity additives overcome the drawbacks usually associated
with the use of ethanol-based fixatives. FineFIX provides optimal preservation of tissue antigens, nuclear and cytoplasmic
morphology and reduced lysis of red blood cells with preservation of the cytoplasmic membranes. By initiating earlier
dehydration and fat extraction during fixation, FineFIX can reduce tissue processing times.
Although formalin-fixed tissues are a huge source of nucleic acids for molecular biological studies, the formation of crosslinkages by formalin makes extraction difficult. Recovery of RNA from tissue fixed in FineFIX has been shown to be greatly
superior to that from snap frozen tissue as there is no cross-linkage formation.
The morphology of tissues fixed in FineFIX, processed conventionally or by microwaves, is of such high quality that it poses
no difficulty for diagnosis. Shrinkage and vacuolisation are reduced to a fraction of that experienced with traditional ethanol
fixation. Pyknotic nuclei are also absent. It is ideal for use with all routine and immunohistochemistry staining techniques
and reduces the need for aggressive epitope retrieval.
FineFIX provides a real alternative for tissue fixation without all the hazards associated with formalin. The Workplace
Exposure Limit (WEL) for FineFIX working solution is much higher than Formalin (see table), reducing the risks to laboratory
staff from vapour exposure.
As an added benefit, FineFIX is delivered as a non-hazardous water-based concentrate negating the need for costly
hazardous goods transport requirements. FineFix must be diluted with ethanol to form the working solution.
