Batteries: Please tape ends, put in a plastic
bag and give directly to an attendant. Vehicle
batteries are also accepted
In Maggie Valley, NC
Bulbs: Fluorescent “curly” household may be
recycled at all convenience centers. Please
place in plastic bag and give directly to
attendant. “Tube” bulbs are only accepted at
the MRF. Please do not place these in blue
bags for street-side pickup
Cardboard: While the Town of Maggie
Valley accepts small amounts of residential
cardboard, large amounts must be taken to the
MRF
Cellphones: If not donatable, recycle these at
the MRF
Computers and electronics: If not donatable,
these items are accepted at the MRF
Construction material: (White Oak Landfill)

Acceptable Items for Curbside
Paper:
• Newspapers, magazines, telephone
books, paper grocery bags, junk
mail, and other non-coated paper
products
• Household Cardboard
Please rinse the following:
• Tin and steel cans
• Glass and aluminum food and
beverage containers
• Aluminum pie and roasting pans
• All bottles
• All plastics
Unacceptable Items
• Aluminum Foil
• Paint Cans
• Window Panes
• Plastic bags
• Mirrors
• Ceramics
• Styrofoam
• Light Bulbs
• Batteries
• Soiled paper products
Please put the above recyclables in a blue or
clear plastic bag and place on the side of the
street in front of your house on
Tuesdays. There is no need to sort
your recycling, that is done at the facility.
Bluebags can be purchased at all major
retail stores.
Yard Waste and Appliance Removal
Please set yard waste and appliances on
your curbside and then call the Town of
Maggie Valley for removal.

Also Accepted at MRF
Paint: Acceptable if hardened in can. To harden
put cat litter, oil dry, or sawdust in can with
paint
Tires: If off rim acceptable free of charge, if on
rim, there is a $2.00 charge for passenger tires
and a $10.00 charge for truck tires on a split rim
Oil: Cooking oil can be recycled at any
convenience center. Please pour it into a clean
plastic container and give directly to attendant.
Motor oil is accepted at any convenience center
in designated area
Others Items to consider
Packing material: Often accepted if clean at
your favorite shipping/packaging store. Please
call store ahead to ensure acceptance
Printer cartridges: Some computer companies
offer a reward program to their customers.
Please contact your company to check
opportunity
Magazines: Inquire with your nearest school if
any magazines can be donated for children’s art
projects
Plants: The Master Gardener
Program through
Haywood County’s
Extension Service host
a plant swap during the
growing season
Plastic bags: Accepted
by most grocery stores.
They must be empty
Donations are a great way to control
waste
The organizations below accept: Clothes,
sporting goods appliances, computers,
electronics, furniture, etc.

Leftover building supplies can be donated and
used for an upcoming Habitat for Humanity
project. Some projects are small scale such as
wheel chair ramps for the disabled. You may
have just enough to make difference.

Sporting Goods: Sporting wear can be
expensive, especially for families on a tight
budget. Please check with team coaches in your
area to donate to children who need equipment.

able to direct a you to a specific need.
