TOWN HALL OFFICE HOURS
Monday – Friday - 8:15 am - 4:30 pm
Council meeting for the month will take place on Wednesday,
September 7th and Monday, September 19th at the Nackawic Lion’s
Club. Council meetings are open to the public and are called to order
at 7:00 pm. No matter shall be placed on the agenda for consideration
at any regular Council meeting unless the request for consideration
of the matter is received by the Acting Chief Administrative Officer,
in writing, before 12:00 noon on the Friday preceding the day on
which the meeting is to be held.
The Town Office will be closed for regular business on
Monday, September 5th for Labour Day.
ATTENTION RESIDENTS!!
The Town of Nackawic has enlisted in the Regional Service
Commission 11 Water/Sewer Enforcement Services. Any resident
that accumulates a year of unpaid water/sewer fees (currently
$454.60) will be automatically disconnected. This will follow the
standard late payment notices that you would have already received
prior to that point.
All Payments can be made in person at our current address of 50
Landegger Drive, bottom floor of the Nackawic Middle School or
mailed to 115 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB E6G 2P1. You can also pay
online
with
a
debit
or
credit
card
at

RON BERUBE NOMINATIONS
The Ron Berube Volunteer of the Year Award is presented each year
in recognition of a volunteer who has contributed in a special way to
the Town of Nackawic and surrounding communities. If you would
like to nominate an individual who has a strong commitment to
volunteerism in their community nomination forms are available at
Town Hall or online at www.nackawic.com. All nominations are to be
received at Town Hall by Friday, October 28th, 2016.
NEWS ON THE RECREATION FRONT
Dogs – there has been an increase in dogs being unleashed on our
waterfront and a lack of scooping the poop. We ask for your
cooperation in this matter.
Western Valley in Motion Youth Games – Summer of 2017 will see
Nackawic host the 35th anniversary and plans are well underway. The
games are held on Thursday, July 20th & Friday 21st. It’s for youth 813 years of age. The cost is $35 (includes an “Official” games t-shirt).
There will be lots of team events over two days promoting recreation,
physical activity, sportsmanship and culture activities.
Western Valley in Motion Sr. Winter Bowling Schedule – Held in
Woodstock on the following Thursdays from 10 am until noon!

As a courtesy, if you plan to use the gazebo for an event, please call
ahead to book, we are hoping to avoid conflicts.
Soap Box Derby – The derby will run on Saturday, September 17th
from 1-3 pm. This was rescheduled due to the weather on Nackawic
Community Days.
Car Show – Our annual car show will run at the arena on Saturday,
September 24th from 11 am until 2 pm. All vehicles are welcome.
Docks – The docks will be removed on Monday, September 26th.
Ice Season – The first day of ice will be Monday, October 17th.
Run the River – Saturday, November 5th, registration is now open!

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL
Mayor Kitchen and Council extend a warm
welcome to teachers, staff and students as
they begin a new school year. Motorists
please use caution and watch for our
children as they start out for school and at
crosswalks.
FIRE PERMITS
Fire Permit forms are available at Town Hall. Section 14.01 of By-law
S-11, A By-law Respecting the Fire Department, states, “Any person
who proposes to ignite a fire within the Town limits shall make a
written application to the Fire Chief for a permit.” A new permit is
required each time you burn. (This does not include backyard fire
pits). Fines for not having a valid permit range from $50 to $200.
FIRE DEPARTMENT FUNDRAISER
Rescue the Ace fundraiser sponsored by the Nackawic Fire
Department and Nackawic Curling Club. It is held every Thursday at
the Nackawic Curling Club from 4:00 – 6:00 pm and the draw will take
place at 6:30 pm (ticket holder must be present) if ticket holder does
not come forward in 15 minutes another ticket will be drawn. The cost

NACKAWIC AND AREA WELLNESS
Nackawic and Area Wellness Committee Meeting is on for Thursday,
September 1st at 3:00 pm at MyGym. This is an open meeting for all
who are interested in being part of this committee.
General meeting for all those interested in participating in the
Community Garden will be held on Thursday, September 8 th at 6:30
pm at the Nackawic Public School Library.
The work day for the community garden has been switched to Friday,
September 23rd at the Nackawic Middle School between 8:30 - 11:00
am. All willing hands are welcomed.
GED Program will be up and running again at the Kirk United Church
starting mid-September. If you are interested in this program you
can contact Travis Kinney at travis.kinney@wvala.ca .
There is still room available for those interested in our Bulk Buying
program. Information can be picked up at MyGym or the Nackawic
Town Office. First order for September needs to be received by
Wednesday, September 7th.
Women’s Fall Bicycle Ride – Sunday, September 18th in Woodstock.
Cycling event for Women and Girls – 5 km; 10km; or 15 km – your
choice. Join the energy; fun and enthusiasm! Meet at the river for a
beautiful fall bike ride …just for the health of it! (Not a competition or
race). Registration cost is $20 (kids 12 and under are FREE) starts
at 9 am at the River Restaurant 558 Main Street, Woodstock with a
20% off brunch/lunch. Prize draws; registration package and a great
time to become energized, motivated and inspired toward Women’s
Health and Wellness!
Dancing continues - Tuesday, September 6th to October 4th from 6 –
7 pm at MyGym. Deborah Helle of Woodstock will teach us how to
waltz, foxtrot, rumba, disco, tango, and meringue. Cost for all 6
lessons is $40 per couple with a limited enrollment. Call Gail

reserve your dancing space.
GIRL GUIDES
Are you interested in camping, crafts, drama, cooking, science,
outdoor adventures, community service, health and fitness, all while
having fun with girls of your own age? Then the Girl Guides are for
you! Girl Guides (grades 4-6) and Pathfinders (grades 7-9) meet
every Wednesday 6:30 8:00 pm at the Kirk United Church. Start-up
date is September 21st (games night). Drop by or contact Jen

information. We will be in Millville on September 17th at the craft fair
selling Girl Guide cookies, baked items and candy Kabobs. Hope to

NACKAWIC PUBLIC/SCHOOL LIBRARY
Regular Story time - Starting Wednesday, September 21, at 10:30 am.
Join “Nanny D” in her cozy corner for stories, songs, action rhymes
and crafts. Introduce your preschooler to the joy of reading, and
meeting other little ones for social time. The program is repeated on
Thursday evenings at 6:30 for those parents who cannot attend the
morning story time.
Book Launch – Join us on Thursday, September 22nd, at 6:30 pm as
we welcome Riel (Givan) Nason to launch her new novel All the
Things We Leave Behind. Riel will do a reading from the book and
answer questions afterwards, followed by an informal reception.
Light refreshments will be served. Riel’s first book The Town that
Drowned won the 2012 Commonwealth Book Prize for Canada and
Europe, and the 2012 Margaret and John Savage First Book Award.
It was also shortlisted for several other literary awards as well as
longlisted for the 2013 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.
Computer Classes – Once again, we will be offering FREE computer
classes in partnership with the Western Valley Adult Learning
Association. The classes consist of ten 3 hour sessions, held once
a week in the library Reading Room. Email, online shopping,
spreadsheets, photo managing and editing, internet surfing, and
much more! Anyone interested please call 575-2136 for information
and to register. Maximum of 8 students so call soon!!
Used Books at MyGym – Come and check out the selection, all funds
raised are used to purchase books for the library. Thanks to Gail and
Joyce for looking after this for your library. The sale has raised
almost $4000 over the last three years!
Knitting Group – Drop in on Thursday afternoons from 2:00- 4:00 and
enjoy a nice cup of tea and knit or crochet to your heart’s content
with others who share your passion! Everyone welcome.
Browse ‘n Café – Every Friday at 11:00 am, join us for coffee, tea and
a sweet. A great way to meet people if you’re new to the area! See
what’s new in books, DVDs, magazines, audiobooks, and more. We
have free Wi-Fi and also three computers for use by the public –
FREE!
Loonie Lottery – Get in on the weekly 50/50 draw at your library. The
cost is $1.00 per week and all money raised goes towards the
purchase of new books for your library. Last month’s winners were
Eileen Pellerin and Carolyn Munroe.
The library will be closed Monday, September 5th for Labour Day.

NACKAWIC CHILDCARE INC.
Morning Preschool Program – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 8:30
– 12:00 noon. Ideal for school readiness and social development of
your child.
Flexible Scheduling – We are very excited to be offering flexible
scheduling our preschool program beginning in March 2016. This
would be of particular interest to those parents who work shiftwork.

Afterschool Program – Our afterschool program starts up again in
September providing early morning and afterschool care. Fulltime
enrolment also includes full day attendance on storm days and PD
days. We would be happy to hear from you and answer any
questions you may have or to register your child!
SPECIAL ANNIVERSARY SERVICES
There will be an Anniversary celebration at Sure Life Assembly
Church, 335 Otis Drive Nackawic on Sunday, October 2 at 10:30 am
& again at 6:00 pm. Reverend Joseph Beesley will be speaking.

NACKAWIC CURLING CLUB
A thank you to all who supported our Ball Bounce fundraiser which
took place during the Festival on the Bend. The prize winners were:
1st place – Barb Rae; 2nd place – Lynda Finley; 3rd place – Sydney Birt.
Tammy Wilson won the free membership. Your support is much
appreciated!
NACKAWIC AXE-L SKATING CLUB
The Nackawic Axe-l Skating Club will be holding registrations for the
upcoming 2016-2017 Season on Sunday, September 11th at 6:30 pm
at the Nackawic Lion’s Club. Learn to Skate, ages 3 & up. Great
foundation for hockey, figure skating or recreational skating.
Beginners, Canskate & Starskate Programs available. For more

TOPS
Take Off Pounds Sensibly meets every Tuesday night at the
Nackawic Baptist Church on McNair Drive. Weigh-in is from 5:00 –
6:15 pm and the meeting starts at 6:45 pm. If you have any questions,

FESTIVAL ON THE BEND COMMITTEE
We would like to extend our sincerest thanks and appreciation to
everyone who came out to participate and enjoy this year’s event.
We could not have done it without our many wonderful sponsors and
community volunteers. A special thanks to the Nackawic Lion’s Club
for hosting our Bingo night, and great folks like Randy Wilson,
Raymond Thornton and Toby Clark at the Rec. Dept. for their tireless
help ensuring the arena facilities and grounds were impeccable. We
are excitedly optimistic about making next year’s festival even bigger
and better!
LIONS’ CLUB
The Nackawic Lions Club would like to thank all those people who
participated in our events and to the lawnmower race committee who
shared their gate with us. In total we raised slightly over $1000 for
hall maintenance.
The Bowling Alley will be starting up early September. If you are
interested in working at the bowling alley or if you are interested in
team bowling, please contact Ron Berube at 575-8464.
Cards and senior exercises start up September 13th at 1:30 pm once
a week while senior exercises start 10:30 and are on Tuesday and
Thursday.
Shuffleboard and Bocce (good weather) continues on Monday
afternoons, call Margaret Cormier at 575-1992 for more information.

NACKAWIC AREA OUTREACH PROGRAM
The Nackawic & Area Wellness Committee is looking for volunteers
to participate in our Outreach Program. This program will support
visitations to shut-ins, residents in nursing homes, retirement
communities, the hospital, etc. Mileage will be compensated as well
as approved incidentals. If you have a vehicle & space time, we
would encourage you to participate. First meeting will be held @
MyGym on September 21st at 6:30 pm. Contact Bev at 575-2344 or

ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Louise Breau Memorial Medical Trust Fund annual golf
tournament will be held on Saturday, September 17th. Registration is
at 12:30 pm, tee off at 1:00 pm. It is 9 holes of fun. Cost is $100.00
per 4 person team (scramble). There will be prizes and a meal to
follow. Pledge forms available at Dollar Store, Ryan’s Pharmacy,
Nancy Cronkhite, Ron Berube, Teresa Brown and Marina Hull.
MUSIC AT THE AXE
Sure Life Assembly Church will be hosting music at the Nackawic
Waterfront on the Axe on Sunday, September 11th, at 2:30 pm.
EVERYONE WELCOME!
GIANT YARD SALE
There will be a giant yard sale on Saturday, September 10th from 8:00
am – 1:00 pm at Prince William 50 plus Club Hall. All Proceeds are
going to a family in need.
GOSPEL CONCERT
Nackawic Wesleyan Church will be having an outdoor gospel concert
featuring the group “Never Too Late” on Sunday, September 4 th at
6:00 pm. A free will offering will be received for the group. All are

50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
There will be a 50th Wedding Anniversary party for Wendell & Judy
Flewelling at the Nackawic Lions Club, Saturday, September 24th
from 2:00 - 5:00 pm. Come and help us celebrate this milestone in
their lives. There will be live entertainment, a photo show sharing
their true testament of love for each other, their family and friends.
A luncheon will follow. We look forward to you sharing with us in
their special day.
