Hi UVic Golden Key members,
As mentioned in the previous email, we are having an ongoing project called Conversation Cafe, in which we send our members to volunteer in the
International Conversation Cafe held by the IESS (International and
Exchange Student Services).
It is basically weekly social events that help international UVic students, who are currently enrolling in regular courses (non ELC students), to have opportunities to practice more their English skills.
Since the events are mainly discussions about Canadian holidays, cultures, and idioms associated with it, our volunteered assistants need to be native English speakers.
We already have some members participating in the project, and we would like to invite more of you who want to be part of it.
Through this project, we hope to contribute our skills and times toward the literacy development since that's Golden Key is all about.
Here are the time and location for the meetings.
Time: Tuesday*
3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Location: Clearihue Building
Second floor
Room A215**
* except the week of reading break Nov 11th: no session on Remembrance day
and week of Nov 17th: Thursday instead of Tuesday
** will be held in room D132 on Thursday Nov 20th, 08.
Cookies and teas are provided !
Note that you do not need to attend every meeting, but likely go every second week instead.
Depend on how many volunteers we have, you will come in a team basis. The team members will alternate every week so that we can provide new faces and more flexible schedule.

Although assistants are necessarily native English speakers, international
Gk members are also welcome to the cafes as participants.
The more people we have, the more fun it becomes !
All your volunteering either as assistants or as participants will be credited and kept in our record.
