A glance at the faculty of Dentistry
October 6 University
The pioneer of private university education since its establishment according to the
presidential decree number 243 for the year 1996. October 6 University is a member in
the Association of Arab Universities since 1997.
The faculty of dentistry was established in the year 1998. Ten batches of a diverse
student body Egyptians and non-Egyptians especially Arabs have already graduated till the
academic year 2011-2012.
Graduates of the faculty of dentistry October 6 University now work for different
dental institutions world wide and they are all known for their outstanding academic
knowledge and clinical skills.
The faculty of dentistry October 6 University is located in the October 6 University
academic and therapeutic hospital. The faculty was established according to the latest
standards and is fully equipped with the latest German technology.
All the degrees awarded by the university are approved and accredited by the Supreme
Council of Universities of Egypt.

October 6 University, Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine educates
diverse student body through a challenging learning environment informed
by cutting-edge scholarship. We fully embrace the social responsibility and

In order to accomplish our vision, we promote diversity in thinking and

Mission of the faculty of dentistry
The mission of the Faculty of Dentistry i
s to prepare graduates able to provide competent dental care through
advanced education and research activities. The Faculty aims at
improving community oral health by partnering with students and
achieving academic and clinical excellence in the art and science of
dentistry.
Strategic objectives

To educate and train competent students to meet the challenges of the modern
dentistry
To graduate professionals knowledgeable of the basic sciences and exhibit
outstanding clinical skills.
To graduate qualified clinicians who may contribute to promoting the oral health on
the national and regional standards

The library of O6U is considered a center of cultural dissemination with all its halls
in addition to its Arabic and foreign contents. The library is a subscribing in more than
4500 electronic periodicals and it has 60 thousand e-book and 5 thousand books on
CDs.

For a student to attend to the final exams he has to submit the practical
and clinical requirements
The student has to complete 167 credit hours 10 out of which are
obligatory faculty requirements and 7 hours for elective courses.
A student is allowed to register for 12 and up to 20 credit hours per
semester according to his/ her GPA
During summer courses the student is only allowed to register in only 25%
of the total credit hours allowed per semester.
For a student to pass an exam he/she has to obtain 60% of the total grade
such the written exam grade is not less than 30% of the total grade.
A student is banned from attending to the final exam if his/her attendance
is less than 70% of the practical sessions per semester.
Methods of assessment of course work is dictated by the faculty council.
Medical excuses




No medical excuses from private clinics or hospitals are accepted.
Medical excuses can be submitted during the exams.
No medical excuses are accepted after the results are accredited
Medical excuses are submitted to the dean of faculty and is reviewed by the
authorized medical committee and then accredited by the dean of faculty or his
deputy.
Suspension
A student’s registration can be suspended for 2 successive years for students
with accepted medical excuses from the faculty council with fees of 10% of the full fees for
the first year and 25% of the full fees for the second year.
Housing

There is a 4 star hostel for girl students with the capacity of 262 single and double
rooms. All of which are air conditioned.
 There is a 4 star hostel for boy students with the capacity of 231 single and double rooms.
All of which are air conditioned - in 4 stars category.
Youth Care Services
The youth care service department is mainly concerned with the student union elections
and many other activities such as:








Receiving the new students
Medical convoys
Symposia on different occasions
Cultural and religious tournaments between the different faculties
Forming the sports teams
A sports day every Thursday
Yearly chess tournament
Theatrical teams and tournaments
Playgrounds, Courts and Yards
Educational and administrative buildings in O6U occupy (49500) square meter
representing (28%) out of the total area of the university campus whereas the rest of the
area (72%) is dedicated to greenery and playgrounds that means 14 square meter is
allocated to each student.
Regular maintenance of the greenery and playgrounds is carried out that they are
always in an excellent condition.
The campus contains fields and courts for basketball, handball, football and tennis.
Health care
Students are offered full medical insurance through the fully equipped clinics and
the more complex cases are always referred to the university hospital that is also
located inside the campus.
The academic and therapeutic hospital - with the capacity of 320 beds – equipped with up-todate equipments and has advanced outpatient clinics offering all medical services in all the majors
and subspecialties including open heart, intensive care, coronary artery care, catheter of
interfering heart arteries in addition to the departments of artificial kidney, radiology and
emergency department that works round the clock.
Transportation
The university provides 80 buses to serve students and employees to commute between
different districts of Greater Cairo.
Social solidarity
The university offers donations, scholarships as well as loans to students on
different occasions.
The mall
The campus has a mall with restaurants and different services for the students.
International Students’ Services



Aids registration, housing of foreign students and any other problems
Regular meetings with the students and attachés of the same nationality
Parents’ meetings and meetings in the cultural chancellery.
Departments of Cultural Relations

The university has signed cooperation agreements with many foreign and
Egyptian academic institutions so as to offer the students an outstanding
educational service
