Job Summary: The Department of Hospitality Management in the College of Human Ecology at Kansas State University is
seeking a dedicated professional to serve as Department Head and Mary L. Vanier Endowed Professor. The successful
candidate will provide visionary leadership for a dynamic group of faculty engaged in teaching, research, and service.
Qualifications:
Required:
 Doctorate in hospitality management or related field
 Rank of tenured associate professor or professor with
outstanding record of teaching, research, and service
accomplishments
 Strategic leadership abilities and organizational skills
 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
supporting effective interaction with stakeholders
Preferred:
 Record of research, teaching, and service
achievements commensurate with rank of professor
at K-State
 Competence in fiscal management and fund
acquisition to support research and program growth
 Managerial experience in the hospitality industry
 Experience developing and sustaining industry
relationships
Appointment:
12-month position with competitive salary commensurate
with qualifications and experience. Pending approval of
University Provost, the appointment will include the Mary L.
Vanier Endowed Professorship in Human Ecology.

Responsibilities:
Provide leadership for planning and implementing the
department’s new strategic mission and vision; position the
department for substantial growth over the next five years;
facilitate the work of faculty engaged in teaching, research,
service, and outreach; administer departmental resources
including recruitment and evaluation of personnel, budget
preparation and management; acquire/upgrade facilities
and technology for teaching and research; enhance and
develop partnerships with and obtain funding from
business, industry, government, alumni, and professional
organizations; and support international and experiential
learning opportunities.
Department Information:
Ranked among the 20 best hospitality programs in the
U.S., the Department of Hospitality Management is the
only program in Kansas that offers both undergraduate and
graduate programs in hospitality management and is
accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs
in Hospitality Administration. Currently staffed by six fulltime faculty members, the department cooperates with
hospitality organizations and other entities to provide
hands-on experience for approximately 250 undergraduate
and 20 graduate students. Faculty also collaborate with
researchers in business, agriculture, food science, KSU
Research & Extension, psychology, and other disciplines in
dynamic and innovative research ventures. A developing
partnership between the department and Kansas State
University Olathe will bring more than six decades worth of
hospitality management training and education to the
Greater Kansas City area.
