HMR Supplies: People who Solve Problems
HMR Supplies designs and manufactures for the heavy transport industry including
structural movers, heavy haulers, large construction, large product manufacturers, oil
field, cement, marine and wind industries. But that’s not all we do...
HMR Supplies’ main product is experience, expertise and capabilities that help
customers achieve their goals in the most cost-effective way possible.
HMR Supplies starts by listening to learn each customer’s heavy material transport
challenges. Then we focus our talents on creating the right combination of products,
processes and services to overcome those challenges as efficiently as possible. The
total solution can include existing products, custom-modified products or all-new pieces.
With design-and-build capabilities in house — including 3D modeling and FEA
analysis— HMR Supplies can create customized or entirely new equipment to meet
your needs. And even though we have a global reputation, HMR Supplies delivers
local, small-company service and attention. As a small company, HMR Supplies can
quickly change and innovate to bring the latest technology to our customers. All of
our sales representatives are either practicing engineers or have an engineering
background, so they can speak authoritatively about what’s possible.
HMR Supplies — setting the global standard for
excellence while leading the industry in creating
thoughtful, highly cost-effective solutions for every
customer’s material handling challenge.
HMR Supplies is the ideal
combination of ingenuity,
engineering, collaboration
and manufacturing.

The Leader in Transporting Heavy, Awkward Objects
HMR Supplies has
been handling all
manner of heavy,
awkward objects
and structures for
more than 30 years.
The Holland Dollie
Our original and signature
product, the Holland
Dollie has carried
hundreds of objects —
from an entire museum
to massive transformers,
bridge beams —
ships and more, while
constantly evolving to
meet new challenges.
We’re continuously
improving the Holland
Dollie’s versatility and
4 | 641-585-3630
ease of use and have
adapted it to hundreds
of non-standard uses.
Today HMR Supplies
manufactures six
varieties of standard
and customized Holland
Dollies. The design and
capabilities of the Holland
Dollie also often serve as a
springboard for modifying
existing equipment or
creating all-new products
for customers.
Heavy Transport and
Material Handling
HMR Supplies specializes
in finding ways to help
customers get massive
objects and materials
from Point A to Point B —
whether that’s a journey of
100 yards or 1000 miles
— as quickly, efficiently
and safely as possible.
Our equipment also plays
an integral role in moving
material within heavy
manufacturing facilities.
With safety always the
highest priority, HMR
Supplies’ experts work to
understand customers’
challenges and then
design total, costeffective material handling
systems. That often
means modifying existing
products or designing
new pieces.
Self-Propelled
Modular
Transporters
Building on leadership
in dollies, HMR Supplies
has created a line of
Self-Propelled Modular
Transporter (SPMT)
products.
A good example of an
SPMT application is
the Remote Controlled
Powered Platform Dollie
or RC PPD. The units
have interchangeable
saddles that can be
designed to hold specific
products. Wheel and axle
configurations can be
customized for unique
indoor and outdoor
conditions. The RC PPD’s
unmatched flexibility
traverses awkward
products sideways,
forwards and backwards
via remote controlled
electronic steering.
Creating “Craneless”
Facilities
Many HMR Supplies
customers seek our
expertise in creating
alternatives to using
cranes to move heavy
products. Using cranes
elevates risk of damage
to the object being lifted
and injury to the people
involved in lifting and
transporting.
No matter what you
have to move and
where you have to
move it, HMR Supplies
has the expertise and
equipment to get it done.
While cranes are
valuable tools in many
applications, HMR
Supplies collaborates
with customers to create
solutions built around our
SPMT products that can
often move material more
safely and efficiently and
to a more diverse set of
locations than cranes.

Using Ingenuity and
Engineering to Overcome
Challenges
Every time HMR Supplies creates a piece of
equipment, we build on our knowledge base
and capability to innovate and adapt.
Our culture encourages questioning
conventional approaches and imagining
improved ways to accomplish even the
most complex tasks. Here are two examples
of HMR Supplies combining ingenuity and
engineering.
From Trees to Bridge Decking — The Straddle Mover
The Straddle Mover was
initially designed to meet
the very specialized needs
of planting trees on the
9/11 Memorial plaza.
During consultation with
the customer, it became
clear the equipment
needed to carry the tree in
the center of all the axles,
be capable of traversing
sideways and negotiating
tight openings on the
surface of the plaza.
There were also eight
levels underneath the
plaza so the equipment
needed to create low
ground pressure and offer
wider tire base.
HMR Supplies took that
input and more to create
the Straddle Mover, with a
knuckle suspension that
can lift and lower the frame
and load up to 20 inches.
The device can lower its
load to below ground level,
and features 135 degrees
of steering to negotiate
tight quarters. A single
operator with a remote
control can operate the
Straddle Mover.
The Straddle Mover
can also be adapted
to provide an easier
method for bridge deck
replacement that reduces
down time normally
associated with the task.
Landing a Big One — Large Vessel Dry Docking
When Leader Creek
Fisheries in Naknek,
Alaska, wanted to save
time and money by dry
docking their vessels for
the winter near their home
base, they partnered with
HMR Supplies to create a
unique solution.
Even large vessels must
be pulled out of the water
for the very long winter in
6 | 641-585-3630
Alaska. But reaching the
best haul-out location in
Seattle could take up to
10 days. By developing a
process to haul out locally,
Leader Creek Fisheries
added up to 20 more days
to the working season.
After extensive
consultation, a system that
uses ten Holland Dollies
and five trusses and can
handle up to 400 tons
was devised. The special
dollies are capable of
being submersed in water.
Accumulators assist in
regulating the pressure
in the hydraulic system.
When pulling longer scows
out of the water, raising
the hydraulic cylinders on
the dollies compensates
for an arc in the ramp. The
hydraulic cylinders on the
Holland Dollies for each
truss are coupled together
in order to equalize the
load. Nitrogen in the
accumulators controls the
hydraulics to assure the
cylinder can adjust and
maintain consistent control
of the vessel.
Not only does HMR Supplies
design and build entirely
new pieces of equipment to
meet unique challenges, we
continuously adapt all of our
existing equipment to new uses.

HMR Supplies — A Tradition of Heavy Duty Innovation
What started with
moving one house
led to the founding
of Holland Moving
& Rigging Supplies,
Inc. which is today
a global leader
in heavy material
transport.
The roots of the company
stretch back to 1968
when Ron Holland of
Forest City, Iowa, wanted
to raise his own house to
put in a new basement.
A lead research
and development
manufacturing engineer
at the time, Holland
borrowed equipment
from a local housemover
and accomplished his
task. When the local
housemover retired,
Holland took over the
business full-time in 1977.
The Holland Dollie
Started it All
In 1981 Ron Holland
began manufacturing
Holland Dollies for resale
and Holland Moving &
Rigging Supplies — later
re-named HMR Supplies
8 | 641-585-3630
— was born. Initially HMR
Supplies manufactured
Holland Dollies to sell to
other housemovers across
the country.
Chris Holland, Ron’s
son, returned to the
family business in 2000
after earning a degree
in electrical engineering
from Iowa State University.
Chris has been involved
with heavy transportation
his entire life and draws on
this experience to design
new products for the
industry. Chris developed
the first line of selfpropelled, hydrostatically
driven Holland Dollies
in 2002. In 2007 he
was made President
of HMR Supplies and
began designing custom
transport systems for
large product industries.
Today what started with
Ron Holland’s desire for
a new basement in 1968
has grown into three
companies: Ron Holland
Housemoving, Inc., HMR
Supplies, Inc. and CR
Holland Crane Service, Inc.
HMR Supplies is also a
distributor of moving and
rigging equipment all
over the world including
distributors for SPX
Powerteam, Simplex,
Enerpac, HIlman Rollers,
Mat Jack, GKS rollers,
Hevi-Haul skates, Wilton
clamps, DuraDeck
matting, Mud-Tracks and
Hastings push poles.
HMR Supplies also
sells wedges and a
variety of other useful
tools for the moving and
rigging industry.
A Worldwide Leader
in Heavy Material
Handling
Don’t let our small-town
Iowa roots fool you.
Today HMR Supplies
does business across the
United States and around
the globe. Our products
have been used on four
continents and we’re
experts in the details of
exporting products. We
have all the expertise
and partnerships
required to handle
customs and other
challenges involved in
getting products from
Iowa to anywhere on
the globe.
HMR Supplies has
been a family business
from the beginning,
with father Ron Holland
(pictured on the truck
in the 1977 photo
below) passing the
family business to son
Chris (standing by the
beam). Both men have
a passion for finding
new, better ways to help
customers overcome
heavy material handling
challenges.
