Invisible risk – are you playing the odds?
Your electrical distribution system is the most vital
aspect of your operation. Depending on your building or
type of operation, electrical failure can cause a loss of
goods, data, equipment, property damage – potentially
even life – that will require unbudgeted time and money
to repair or replace, if possible.
Just because everything is working today doesn’t
necessarily mean that potential problems aren’t lurking.
Improperly maintained systems will deteriorate over
time, increasing the likelihood for malfunction.
Consider this:
•Normal electrical cycles create thermal expansion
and contraction that naturally loosen connections.
•Accumulated dust and dirt can produce a high
resistance path. These paths are responsible for
more than 30% of all electrical failures annually.
•Moisture is another culprit that causes 17% of all
electrical failures.
The more power your operation uses, the greater the
risk of failure, and the warning signs are invisible to
the untrained eye. Left unchecked, failure happens.
Suddenly. And when it does, it can be catastrophic.
PowerHawkeSM Preventive Electrical Maintenance
can detect irregularities in your electrical distribution
system before they turn into problems and proactively
protect your most valuable assets – your building, your
business and your people.
Top Causes of Electrical
Distribution System Failures
Loose connections / parts 30.3%
Moisture 17.4%

Foreign objects / short circuiting 7.3%

Overloading / inadequate capacity 2.4%
Accumulation of dust, dirt and oil 2.2%
All other causes 8.1%

Every day across America, assets,
revenue and opportunity are lost due
to electrical failure. According to FEMA
and the U.S. Fire Administration, in 2008
alone, $442,000,000 in direct dollar losses
occurred due to fire caused by electrical
distribution system malfunction.

A complete electrical distribution system
IR Assessment identifies deteriorating parts or
connections before a problem occurs. This is a
non-contact, non-invasive analysis performed
under normal loads with no interruption or power
shutdown. Assessment includes a report detailing
the equipment scanned, its location and general
specification. Problems are ranked by priority codes
with descriptions and recommended action or repair.
A full Visual Energized Inspection of all major
electrical system components is our simplest means
for locating potential problems and issues. No more
“out-of-site, out-of-mind” with this basic inspection. Any potential problems are immediately brought to
your attention for resolution or scheduling.
A full NPFA 70E Arc Flash Hazard Analysis
can protect the electrical workers and critical
power system in your facility. The Year One Arc
Flash Hazard Analysis includes a complete onsite
inspection and assessment, short-circuit and
protective device coordination study, mitigation
review indicating where flash hazard levels can
be reduced, an updated one-line drawing plus full
equipment documentation and on-site labeling for
compliance with OSHA and NFPA.

Year One are effective, and detect any new
potential problems.
A full Visual Inspection of all major electrical
system components.
A one-day Facility Electrical Safety Audit
will bring our certified experts in electrical safety
and proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
into your facility to evaluate and provide you with
a non-threatening look at your operations from
our point of view. We can help with identifying
practical areas to be addressed as well as
potential training opportunities and resources.

quarterly payment plan spanning
the life of the program. Now you can
budget your preventive maintenance
investment over three years, and
stretch your operating dollars.
Follow-up IR Assessment supports the Years
One and Two Assessments to ensure repairs are
effective, detect any new potential problems and
identify additional de-energized corrections to be
made during the Year Three scheduled outage.
A full Visual Inspection of all major electrical
system components.
De-energized cleaning and lubrication of your
critical power system components eliminates the
leading causes of failures – moisture and dirt. Years
One and Two IR Inspections will help in pin pointing
areas of concern and focus.
De-energized NFPA / NETA recommended
breaker testing of main, critical and non-critical
components follows the recommended frequency
and standards for your specific critical power
systems. In the hands of our qualified technicians,
our full complement of calibrated test equipment
makes sure key components protect your system
in the way it was intended. Normally requiring a
planned outage of your system, we will insure that
your system is in top shape when it is returned to
active duty.

where preventive maintenance is not
performed. This means that electrical
failures, for the most part, can be
avoided.
